The Loft has been a vital part of our yearly summer travel plans for over 2 decades, and never disappoints. Its spectacular location allows for the serenity, and sometimes excitement, of bold open ocean, enjoyed from the cottage’s immense deck or from the protection of the glass-front “heart of the house” room. It also offers proximity to an active fishing wharf that houses a delightful outdoor bar and restaurant (Shaw’s), and the departure dock for the Hardy Boat, great fun for puffin and seal watching, as well as transportation to Monhegan Island, a worthwhile day trip to a quintessential Maine island that provided inspiration to so many artists, Jamie Wyeth among them.
The cottage itself is bright and airy, and the living area is decorated in nautical blues immediately setting the stage for a happy ocean experience. After a day of touring the coast, perhaps to nearby Damariscotta, Freeport or Rockland, or curled up reading with no other sound but the crashing waves, or just a scenic lunch under the umbrella on that great deck, the Loft offers a warm welcome “home”.
The Loft is a gem. We’ve been spending a week each summer here for quite some time. The Loft has all the essentials, its comfortable, well kept, and located right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
When you walk out onto the deck you are literally feet from the water and the view is stunning. If you look straight out over the ocean, you can see Monhegan island ten miles out. There are also close by small rocky islands just to the north that are often covered with shore birds. It’s a wonderful place to watch the ocean and boats go by, or just enjoy the sun and salt air. We usually have lunch or dinner on the deck every day.
The Loft is located on a quiet private road offering nice walks. But it’s also a short drive to Reilly’s, an old fashion surprising well stocked grocery store, as well as to several restaurants including Shaw’s Wharf located right on the harbor.
The owners, Tom & Becky, live next door and are warm and welcoming. It's a wonderful place to send some time on the coast of Maine.
I have been enjoying this cottage every year for about 10 years. It is quiet, calm, peaceful, clean, cozy, welcoming....and a wonderful place to see the sun rise and the moon set. The cottage owners are just the right blend of helpfulness, hospitality and discretely available or not. I love the long walks, the gorgeous views and the peace that renews me each time I come!
