Wonderful welcome

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 May 2015
Heather and Grant gave us such a warm welcome and looked after us the night we stayed during the rail trail. Arriving cold and covered in mud we cleaned-up, warmed up and washed and dried our clothes and gear in front of their roaring fire. There was snow on the ground but we were cosy and comfortable in our room. We'd like to go back just to relax and enjoy their hospitality. There was a delicious breakfast available in the morning which kept us going to our next stop at Hyde. Thank you!

After a very challenging day cycling through snow, we arrived at Heather & Grant's lovely home they were so friendly, inviting and nothing was too much trouble. Had a lovely warm and relaxing evening with them.

Mr Goat provides a warm welcome, but the genuine hospitality Heather and Grant give through fabulous food, use of car to discover hidden rock pools and historic towns nearby, make this a unique option for cyclists or garden lovers touring the area. The gorgeous cottages are beautifully decorated with super comfy beds, luxurious linen and the cutest candle-lit bathroom - better than any ensuite and only steps from the rooms.
This was a highlight of our Railtrail journey.

I fell in love with Komako Peonies & Garden Cottages viewing the sleeping options on line, I was not disappointed, My teenage son & I slept in the tool shed with lovely wood panelling, the grounds are so beautiful and Heather & Grant are so easy to talk to, very hospitable. We ended up dining with their buffet spread, the meat was so tasty and there was so many lovely dishes. Heather has thought of everything with kitchenette and even a washing machine should you be in dire need! We got to use their car to go up to Naseby, it is wonderful and shows how trusting Heather & Grant are in exchange for a bit of extra petrol money. It is very handy, right next to the rail track, so easy to find with the sign there.

After riding from Clyde and arriving at Komako Peonies we were met by Heather & Grant who are the most lovely couple, Heather's love of gardening is obvious, and has featured in NZ House & Garden earlier this year. A most tranquil setting
After we freshened up we were offered the use of a car to have a wee look around the city. (how many places offer this?) we drove up to Hamilton's Cemetery were you will see the most amazing views over the Maniototo.
After a few pre dinner drinks,Grant cooked up a storm on the BBQ & Heather complimented with a selection of salads, roast vege's & deserts incl Chocolate coated strawberries. We were so spoilt.
You have to check the toilet out, it is the most amazing site you will ever see, to say it is romantic is an understatement,it is simply amazing, if you don't stay their at least drop in to check it out on way past as it right beside the Rail Trail.
The accommodation is top notch, the room we had was really quaint & tastefully decorated, the bed was super comfy.
This is a must to stop a night or two for anyone riding the Rail Trail & looking for a relaxed break, you will be made to feel most welcome by Grant & Heather.
Many Thanks for your kind hospitality, it was much appreciated & I am sure we will be back on our Tandem
Grant & Christine

I stayed with Heather and Grant at Komako Peonies 16-20 October 2014. I loved the tranquil setting of the home and beautifully presented accommodation cottages. Guest facilities are top notch without being overly fussy, combined with the relaxed atmosphere, it's a very welcoming place to stay. There's plenty of outdoor places to sit and read, enjoy a lovely wine or coffee, and enjoy the different views of the stunning gardens, landscape and mountains.

Thanks very much, I feel well rested.
