This was our first time there. We live in Galena and our friends live in the western suburbs of Chicago so we thought we would try Franchesco's as a halfway place to meet. We weren't disappointed. The ambience was beautiful. On the formal side but there were children there too. For starters, we had the calamari and bruschetta. Both delicious. I'm pretty picky about calamari because it's either over breaded or/and tough but this was neither. It was very tender and ever so lightly breaded. Two of us had the lobster bisque, again, it was delightful. Our entre's were salmon, cod, veal marsala and eggplant parmesan. We allmhad to taste each one and all were delicious. And the portions were large. I'm also afraid to order salmon out because it's usually over done and dry. This was done perfectly and delicious. Our waitress was Taylor, a very attentive young lady. We all felt the prices for what we ordered may be on the higher end but were worth it because of the portion size and flavors. We didn't have dessert because we were so full but maybe next time. I would love to try the bananas foster. As we were leaving a gentleman greeted us, manager or owner, not sure which. Asked if we had the steak. He said we should try it next time. We did notice the steaks were a little pricey but after his comment, maybe worth it. Still not as expensive as in Chicago. We agreed this is the best restaurant in Rockford for a nice evening out, hands down. And we'll be meeting our friends there again.
