Our first time to Via Roma was to celebrate a special birthday. The space is small and cozy at about 1300 square feet. Reservations are not accepted so we got there early (5:00 on Saturday evening) and were glad we did. We were greeted warmly by the owner and seated right away in the front section of the restaurant. By the time we left about 1 1/2 hours later, the place was absolutely packed, and there were quite a few people at the front door waiting for tables right where we were eating - which was a little awkward.

We had the mahi-mahi griglia from the regular menu and specials including beefneck bones with pasta, risotto la selva, and chicken prosciutto mozzarella. We enthusiastically recommend all of these dishes! BYOB is a plus and no corkage fee either. The overall service was very prompt and friendly.

When we arrived, I had mentioned to the owner that we were there for my dad's 90th birthday. When we ordered dessert (pistachio gelato), they topped it off with a birthday candle for him. A nice gesture.

The owners have mastered the art of great food and providing an exceptional customer experience. No wonder people were streaming in. We will be back for sure.

We have been coming here for years Alessandro and his wife Lisa are amazing hosts.
Alessandro the expert chef and Lisa runs the front of the house.

We don't even need a menu anymore, now we just look forward to whatever Alessandro choses to feature as a special. Our favorite to start is the fresh mozzarella served with prosciutto, olives and artichoke hearts. Entrees, the mushroom risotto is amazing, as is the suppe di pesce and the Oxtail with roasted potatoes or pasta.

Did I mentioned its BYOB. So grab a bottle of Chianti and give Via Roma a try... I guarantee you will return often!

The have a lovely patio so you can even dine outside

My husband is a wine collector, so we were delighted to find a good, reasonably priced Italian restaurant where we could BYO. Everything was fresh tasting and delicious. Food came quickly and service was great. Not very fancy and pretty noisy. Would be challenging if you want to take a group and have a lot of conversation. Fun to bring a group that likes to share dishes and focus on the food.

Everyone had something different -- a pasta, a chicken dish and oxtail, and all were wonderful. Even the roasted potatoes were unusually good -- not something I'd look for in an Italian place. The chef/owner worked in high end Italian eateries in downtown Chicago, then brought his skills -- and much lower prices -- to this suburb. Service was excellent and all the staff seemed to enjoy being there. They remembered the dining companion who introduced us to this place by his three previous dinner orders, placed over abut six months. Very impressive. The also adroitly steered me to the gluten-free options. Do you like wine? You can bring your own at no corkerage fee. We'll definitely be back!
