Nice stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Dec 2019
We were is Chicago for a Bears game and stayed at the Congress. The staff treated us well. The room had a good view of the park and the lake. The rooms was wonderful except I thought the bed was very hard. The hotel is walking distance to many things. We watched the ice skaters and visited the bean and were able to walk to Soldier Field. I would stay again if for no other reason than the location.

Stayed there for a week during an exhibition, it feels like a hotel stuck in the 70’s. Huge place in gradual decline as rooms are very dated and in need of some TLC, God knows who would have deep enough pockets to bring this iconic hotel back to its prime.

This is a very late review however I can’t imagine much has changed. We had the most amazing stay here. The hotel reception and our bedroom was spotless. I have seen reviews where people have mentioned the shabby hallways, yes some areas had a bit of pealing paint however it was clean, as were the carpets and as we only walked between the lift and bedroom it didn’t matter. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, I had the best sleep ever.
The staff were wonderful, polite, friendly and very helpful. If we ever return to Chicago we would have no hesitation in returning. Very good value for money.

Got a relatively good price on this historic hotel in the Loop and was eager to check it out but we were disappointed by the staff interactions, which ranged from indifferent to downright hostile, the room itself; and overall experience. At check-in the clerk was gruff, didn't greet us or make eye contact, and generalyl let us know that he'd rather be anywhere else. This hotel has clearly seen better days and owners have clearly skimped on maintenance and updating it. While our room had a very nice view of Grant Park, the noise level we could hear from the room next door was unacceptable (room still had connecting door that transmitted everything). Parking process was chaotic.

Room tip: Make sure you are overlooking Grant Park

We want to a concert at the United Center and planned to stay overnight in the city afterwards. The Congress was the cheapest on a Saturday night ($142). It’s a grand old hotel that was built in 1893 – so don’t expect a ton of amenities in the rooms. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bed was new and the bathroom had recently been renovated. And it was quiet – maybe because our room faced the inner courtyard instead of Michigan Avenue. We used Parkwhiz to find an overnight spot in a parking garage about 2 blocks away – much cheaper ($18). Good place to choose if you just want to spend a night in the city after an event.

The room was clean in the new white decor. The bed slept great. You don't even notice any movement by your spouse. I had a lakeview of the fountain (it was shut off during my stay). It is in walking distance of the Art museum and the bean sculpture. The bathroom had updated features along with the older tile. The hot water in the faucet and shower was almost instant. You can tell this is an older hotel, but very comfy. One drawback was you couldn't control the room temperature (No thermostat). I had to open windows to cool the room down. I could stay here again, but I prefer to test other places closer to shopping.

Room tip: Nice view of Lake Michigan
