Description: Girl & the Goat has been serving fun foods, craft beers, and making wine in a rustic and kick-butt environment since summer 2010. The restaurant opens at 4:30 every day, and stays open until 11pm on weeknights and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays (until those last late night eaters scrape their fork across the plate for the last time, or finish licking their plates until they're shiny and clean). The Goat's menu is divided into three categories: Vegetable, Fish, and of course Meat--while vegetable, fish, or meat are respectively the main stars of their categories, there are crossovers in each area so you'll get a little bit of everything. Bread is baked daily, and there are always new creations on the menu. Girl & the Goat sits in the West Loop smack dab in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor, but the location is still gritty enough to appeal to the chef’s integrity. The Goat has a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help.Girl & the Goat blended their own wine, and it's tasty. There are beers on tap from Three Floyd’s and a couple others. If you're lucky, you might come across the elusive collaboration beers that Stephanie personally crafted with a couple of beer buddy cohorts. In addition to tap beers, there's also a bunch of bottles to choose from. Girl & the Goat is open 7 days a week, because The Goat is a tireless beast, and besides, who needs rest anyway? Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

First of all, make your reservations way in advance and even then you may have to eat dinner at 4:30. It was well worth it!!
Space was comfortable, service very friendly and knowledgeable, but the food was the bomb!!
Started with the Oyster combo of wood fired and fried oysters. Best Fried oysters ever. Crispy coating, flavorful oysters and great dipping sauce.
Server delivered a complimentary order of the chickpea fritters. Thoughtful and tasty.
The entrees we chose were the Halibut with Blueberry Nuoc Cham as well as the Crisp Braised Pork shank. Both were 5 star entrees. The Halibut perfectly cooked with an asian flare. The pork was very flavorful and served with an excellent Naan bread.
We had to get something from the "Goat" portion of the menu, and chose the empanadas. Husband loved them but they were a little "gamey" for my taste. We had the Caramel Corn and Malt balls for dessert. Addicting!!

I'm sure tons of people have reviewed the restaurant and the food, so I'm not going to belabor that point. But we got to sit at the Chef's Table which probably made it one of the top restaurant experiences I've ever had. I mean it really is hard to beat Paul Bocuse in Lyons, but this was right up there. If watching all the hustle and bustle of the kitchen weren't enough, the chefs were anxious to answer questions, throw in some things we didn't order just because. Management brought us extras as well. The waiter was so very friendly and so knowledgeable. He explained every dish, made suggestions, and was a big part of the whole experience. As I said, I'm sure tons of reviews offer food suggestions. Love the duck tongue, empanadas, shisito peppers - seriously everything. As our waiter said, close your eyes and point to the items on the menu and you can't miss.

We have been fans of Chef Izzard from her days on TV, but we're hooked on her restaurants. Girl and the Goat is the best of the bunch, with wonderfully rich yet balanced flavors that we would never think of. Even a relatively "simple" beet salad oozes flavor. The goat empanadas, the halibut and the beef shank were all our favorites. If you have to pick just 1 favorite, go with the shank! Do make reservations well in advance and be prepared to speak up to be heard - it is lively here.
