Had the great pleasure of dining at Giant on Wednesday night, Dec 14th, 2016. It was our first time at this pretty popular spot and we had expectations of small portions and a din that would prevent conversation.....we were totally wrong!

First, let me say that the decor of the restaurant was warm and cozy. Lighting was comfortable, not dark, not bright. Seating is along 2 rows of upholstered banquets and while tables are fairly close, it was easy to tune out neighboring conversation. Best of all, the owners gave a lot of thought to reducing the noise level by adding wall and ceiling sound proofing (YEAH!) and table conversation was easily exchanged!

The menu is very creative and was explained very well by our waiter (Jeremy). Drinks were generous and creative. Each dish has a range of textures, tastes, and heat. There were four of us and we sampled quite a few dishes. We started with an order of the Biscuits with Jalapeno Butter which were delicious. We LOVED the Brussels Sprouts and the Eggplant. The Chicken with Mole was delicious. While it tasted delicious the Lasagna serving was a bit small. The Ribs were fantastic, Potatoes perfect, and the pastas were each robust and flavorful. Then came the desserts, the Smore in which they mix choc chip cookies with rich chocolate cake and marshmallow was heavenly, then an apple tart served with sour cream ice cream! And last, ice cream rolled in coconut and strawberry chips....a signature of the restaurant, magnificent!

Lastly, the entire evening was enhanced by the fact that the owners, Josh and Justin, were watching over our table, offering suggestions and delivering most of the plates. Their attention to us, and all the patrons, wins them extra stars in our book.

Reservations are greatly suggested as we went at 6:30pm and there was never an open table even when we left at about 8:30pm.

My husband and I shared the crab salad with waffle fries, the onion rings, the broccoli, the pici (pasta) and the bavette steak. We thought the pici was the best thing we had all weekend on our visit to Chicago. Service was good -- friendly and unpretentious -- and we were seated at the first table by the window, so noise was not a problem. Cocktails and dessert were good too.

I'm furious I let a friend tell be to go here. I should have known better. The noise level is obscene. A constant beat on a sound track that pierces the inner reaches of your brain.
The food is a joke. Tiny, small, Insignificant portions for crazy prices, I mean absolutely nuts for what you get on the plate.
The famous uni shot is a small fried thing with the taste of liquid inside that tastes like nothing. That's $5. Like cornbread? Here a pure evil of cornbread 2" by barely 2" is $3.
The rest of the food is absurd. Tiny portions of nothing that have so many crazy combinations of ingredients the whole thing becomes a science experiment.
The few things I could identify were 4 small bone dry, greasy sweet ribs for $19 and a tiny piece of onglet for $19, maybe 3 ounces.
This is the kind of place that after you feel completely fleeced by an Alice in wonderland check, you vow never to go to a restaurant again. You can't take the pain and stupidity of the horror show.

We LOVED our dinner at Giant! The food was fresh, creative and most delicious. The service was warm and friendly. One had the feeling like they were guests in someone's home. The room is small, but not so small that it felt crowded. Drinks were wonderful and wine options were many. Giant is a great place to share. The Ribs were a standout!
Dessert should not be missed, either. Just a wonderful place, where you can feel relaxed with friends or family. We will be back!!!!

The food was good. We shared eight entrees including muffins, eggplant, corn relish, crab, two pastas, and baby back ribs. Everything was good. The place is small, crowded and noisy. There is no where to wait. We were 10 minutes early and sent down the block to a bar. We were disappointed that was not a fish entree.
