Owner description: The Clutha Gold Trail is one of the ‘Great Rides’ of Nga Haerenga The New Zealand Cycle Trail. Open year-round, this smooth, wide, well-formed trail over undulating, flat and meandering terrain requires moderate fitness. Whether you walk or ride, the trail offers a unique heritage experience in a diverse and stunning landscape - a journey of discovery around every corner.

We really rate the Clutha Gold Trail! It’s a relaxing 2 day riverside ride with history highlighted along the way, and spectacularly scenic as well. Easy riding, excellent cafes and accommodation along the way - well worth it. We booked it with Bike It Now, who arranged everything and shuttled us back to our vehicle at the end of our ride. Otago is just such a beautiful part of the country to spend some time in.

Fabulous easy trail with lots of photo opportunities. Stay at The Quince B&B at Millers Flat and don't miss Stone House Garden at Roxburgh for lunch and coffee.

This awesome ride we did back to back with the Roxburgh Gorge Trail. Easy riding with lots of places to stop. If you are riding with kids, remember to get your trail passport as it gives them the extra point to interest to find the rubbing stations and learn a little about the trail along the way. Plenty of nice places to stop and picnic, and even go for a swim so don't forget your togs. A 10minute walk and must stop is Horseshoe bend bridge restoration . Pinders pond was also and great stop for a quick dip if its hot. The Clutha River has a lovely spot for swimming and lunch just before Beaumont. Its definately worth a few minutes extra ride up to the lonely graves, nice site and interesting story. The tunnel was also a highlight for our child. All in all a great ride. Logistically a bit of a problem to organise but we stayed at Millers flat and biked one day (55kms) from Alex to Millers Flat, and then day two (47kms) from Millers Flat to Lawrence and caught the Intercity bus back to Millers Flat.
