My friend and I stayed one night while at a conference in Valdosta.
The most significant thing to know is that my friend saw four large roaches in her room during our stay. Rule of thumb: if you see four, there are likely forty more nearby. Bugs are always going to be a possibility in South Georgia, but that was the deal breaker for us. Adding to insect troubles, I stepped in a fire ant bed, and was bit several times while helping my friend, who uses a walker, to maneuver the sidewalk into the building.
We were on the ground floor with a "city view" (which means you look at the parking lot rather than the interstate). This is an older motel that has given cosmetic updates on the exterior to make it look clean and new. It is possible that some of the rooms are completely updated, but not ours. I didn't see any bugs in my room, but it smelled strongly of disinfectant, had poorly done fix-up work, and crumbling trim around doors.
It was a busy place, and our rooms --166 and 168-- were located right next to an exterior door, the laundry, and the cleaning crew hub. Loud voices called out randomly, day and night, but at least the hubbub wasn't constant.
The staff was polite and friendly, if a tad unprofessional. The breakfast buffet was not bad-- and they offer free wine, beer, and snacks every afternoon.
