This was my 4th visit here, I think. After my last stay, I wasn't sure I would return here, but I got a good rate and was able to book at suite for less than $10 more than a standard so we stayed here. Upon arrival, I announced the issues on my last stay when the hotel was full, when it took 3 rooms to find one that was reasonable. (One had curtains/draperies falling down) The hotel was full then so there were no upgrades although they did try to find a standard one with a bathtub and non-connecting. We ended up then in the room they reserve for pilots, but it did connect! This time I didn't mention an upgrade, but there was one room type (1 bedroom suite) higher than the king suite I booked. It showed available on the web site, but I didn't bring it up so partly my fault! The room was ok but had no tub and did connect, but no one was next door so no issues. We slept well since it was the last night of a weeklong trip, and we were tired. The room, #301, faced east and was at the end of the building but not a high floor that my IHG Diamond Profile shows as my preference! There was a sofa, a beverage area, a king-sized bed, and enough area to dance! Everything was clean and all amenities well stocked.
Everyone was welcoming. My favorite hotel employee was the lady about my age at breakfast (60's). She went above and beyond as we had my complimentary breakfast as my IHG Diamond benefit choice. Breakfast was very tasty. I had a omelet (sausage, mushrooms, Spinach, peppers, and cheese). It came with potatoes and bread (they didn't have wheat toast so I had an English muffin). We had coffee (our own pot) plus I mentioned that I drink lots of water so she brought a pitcher of ice water. Other half had wrap w Potatoes. All good except maybe a few too many onions! The chef did a great job!
My issues with this hotel:
1) the bar is no longer an option. They used to have happy hour and include a drink special, but now they give a 10% food or drink coupon. I asked the bartender, and she said one or the other but not both. Since the drinks were overpriced and the food looked like bar food, we went out for Chinese takeaway food. In my earlier visits, the bar was always crowded, but it was EMPTY this time!
2) Hotel internet off when I woke up at 5:45 but back on around 6 am.
3) No pre-assigned upgrade as mentioned earlier
4) Hotel showing its age
In summary, we will stay there again if I can book a suite at a good rate since they don't seem to reserve an upgraded room for their IHG Diamond guests! A bathtub or non-connecting room is a longshot. For one night, we can put up with the inconveniences as long as the staff remain friendly and the breakfast is so fulling and served with a smile!
