THE STAFF WAS EXCELLENT!! Every single person with whom we had contact was professional, polite, personable, helpful, and could not have treated us any better.
I booked our reservations on August 28 in anticipation of evacuating our home (near Daytona) with the approach of Hurricane Dorian. We booked two rooms – the other for my elderly parents. With a predicted possible storm surge of as much as 20 feet, their home could have been badly flooded, and with both of them having mobility problems and medical issues, we had to get them to a safe location. Not knowing how far inland the storm would affect Floridians, we chose to go to Valdosta.
From the time I booked the reservation online, to my phone call with Sandy the Manager the following day (to extend the reservation due to storm changes), to our check-in and check-out, the staff was outstanding and compassionate to us and our situation. Everyone made us feel like family (we were there five nights because the storm kept changing!). I have no idea what kind of salaries they make, but they all should get a raise if this is how they treat all your guests! Because of all the evacuations, they were extremely busy, constantly on the phone, yet immediately responsive to any question or request, in spite of the needs of a sell-out crowd.
Aside from the outstanding customer service, the rooms were spotlessly clean (we are extremely fussy about that). The complimentary breakfast was very adequate compared to many chain hotels we have used in the past. In fact, we stayed in one franchise EconoLodge in Wyoming a few years back that was so bad corporate refunded our charges. The place looked like a crime scene! This location is convenient, clean, and comfortable.
I know that EconoLodge is a “budget” chain, but the convenient location and attentive staff knocked it out of the park for us. We would not only stay there again, but highly recommend it to anyone else going to that area. Valdosta State University is very nearby and this would be a great hotel for family members coming to visit for a weekend or a few days! We had a queen suite that was like an efficiency apartment with a full-sized refrigerator, kitchen cabinets, microwave, and a cook top.
The only reason I do not give this a 5 is because it is a budget chain and can't compare to a Hilton or 5-star resort. Also, we never did use the pool so I cannot comment on that. Otherwise, this place was perfect for our needs.
PS - PET FRIENDLY (but let them know in advance). We had two (very angry) cats evacuate with us. The rooms seem to be well insulated because even though the cats were not always behaving the staff told me they never heard them!

We stayed at the Econo Lodge while driving back home from Florida. It was reasonably priced and close to the Interstate.
The staff was friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is in need of updating, but for what we paid I cannot complain.
I wouldn't book an extended stay here, but for a place to stay a night while traveling it fits the bill!

Our stay was incredibly disappointing and quite frankly unsettling. I’ve included a description of our negative experience below.
We stopped at this hotel after approx 12 hours of driving as a half way point to our final vacation destination. We were exhausted and needed to stop and sleep for safety. As we walked to our nonsmoking room, the entire hallway wreaked of marijuana. When we got to our room we were disgusted to find a dead cockroach in the center of our room. We were also disappointed at the disrepair of the room, particularly the water stain on the ceiling and stains on multiple layers of the bedding. We did not notify management at the time as we were exhausted and weren’t able to switch rooms. We spent the night restless and uncomfortable, concerned about the potential for other bugs. We also avoided placing any of our luggage on the fabric surfaces.
After getting up and packing up earlier than we planned to simply get out as fast as we could, we checked out not stopping for the included breakfast. When we checked out we informed the two women at the desk and the only response was a facial expression of disgust. Nothing was said in the form of apology, disappointment. Literally nothing was said in response to our comments and were just given the receipt to sign. I contacted both Choice Hotel's support and the general manager of the hotel and got ZERO acknowledgement or response. I couldn’t believe the lack of acknowledgement and I certainly doubt anything was done for the future users of the room.
Between the poor, unsanitary condition of the room and the total lack of response from your staff at the desk was unacceptable. Our experience at this location ensures that we will never return to any Econo Lodge or Choice Hotel in the future.
Room tip: cockroaches, marijuana smell

The room was so hot that it took almost 3 hours to cool and when we turned on the lights roaches ran everywhere. The staff at check in was nice but the rooms are definitely out dated. Beds were very stiff.

Check in was fine. Stayed for just 10 hours. Looking for a good nights sleep to drive the next day. We paid a little extra and had the suite, room 117. Some time prior to to 5am the room fire alarm went off for a second and woke me up. I was disoriented from sleeping but thought perhaps I dreamt it. A little later I heard the noise again, and I knew I wasn’t imagining it. 5:30am the alarm goes off and won’t shut off. My family wakes up panicked but I calm them and tell them how we are going to exit and that it is going to be ok. Turns out it was only our room alarm, we reported it to the front desk and the woman who was getting breakfast laughed it off and said she will tell maintenance. So as you can imagine, my kids are upset and not going back to sleep, and neither are we. We had a lot of driving in front of us and it just made the day awful. We paid for a good nights sleep which we did not receive. They were also oddly insistent that we sign our receipt upon check out. The girl who checked us in was apologetic but said the general manager would need to call us to make an adjustment to the rate for the inconvenience.
We were very tired and it made the driving we had to do that day miserable.
We waited 5 days and did not receive a call as promised. I called and talked with Cindy the GM who assured me that she didn’t hear the alarm and that she is a light sleeper so it could not be that bad. She also stated that her maintenance man said that we tore the alarm off the wall which is not true. Yes, the cover was taken off. She reported that the device has a broken motherboard which is most likely the cause of the false alarm. She assured me that she would talk to the party who laughed when my husband went to the front desk disheveled to report the alarm.
Another day passes and no call from Cindy again. My husband followed up and she stated that she still needed to touch base with all parties and talk to the owner of the hotel.
The customer service of the general manager is awful and just echos the attitude that we encountered when we reported the issue.
I will update this review if Cindy follows up. It has already been a week so it is obviously not a priority.
We didn’t have a good nights sleep, driving was awful the next day, the kids were freaked out and the staff laughed. I guess it was entertaining to see a family go through this.
We did not stay to eat breakfast.

Room was decent, clean and comfortable for an older motel. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was OK. Well maintained and the staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was limited and there was not much room to sit and we did not eat there. Looked to be a typical continental breakfast. For a one night stopover, and the price it was a good stay. I would stay here again.
