Diamond in the Rough

My husband and I recently stayed here and had a very comfortable experience. We visited Liberty University for Parents Weekend. When we first pulled up I was a little concerned as the outside of the building looked old and worn. I had read reviews that it was clean so I crossed my fingers. Once in the room we were pleasantly surprised at how modern everything was in the room and it was all very nice and clean. We were very comfortable for the price that we paid. There was no coffee pot to make coffee in the morning in the room although they have coffee in the check in area which was very good so that was fine for us. The area around the hotel seems a little rundown but I felt safe and it was fine. Also, the staff was all very pleasant. The only issue we had was parking. Scaremere is right near the hotel so apparently some people going to Scaremere parked at the hotel. When we arrived to go to sleep for the night we couldn't find a parking spot. We told the night clerk and he helped us, so it was fine.
We will most likely stay here again.

My son & I stayed this past weekend for 3 nights & have found our go-to hotel for frequent visits to Valdosta! It's an older hotel, but clean as can be & the beds were super comfortable. I'm not the type to ding for wear & tear as these places have such a high turnover & for the price we paid, I absolutely can't complain. Sheets/bathroom were spotless, great shower/water pressure, fantastic air conditioning & a mini fridge with a freezer that actually worked! Yay! The pool & surrounding area was clean and we had a great time out there. We didn't have a problem with noise at all, though I know that can depend on the other customers at the time. We didn't eat breakfast, but looked like the standard hotel fare & I did notice 2 waffle irons I plan to use in the future.

It's located right off I95 but the area is quiet, safe & we never had any trouble getting a decent parking place despite the conjoined parking lot with the Sleep Inn. The mall, other shopping & numerous restaurants are right down the road & downtown is about 10 minutes. Lots to do in Valdosta as it's a college town!

I cannot say enough good things about the staff. They were all so nice! The call to the room about 10 minutes after check in to make sure we were happy with everything was a nice touch. Thanks for a great stay!

Only thing I would change is adding coke products & not just Pepsi. ;)

I stayed in room 205 about a month ago. I saw that someone else who stayed in this same room more recently posted a picture of a red splatter on the bathroom doorframe that was there last month when I was and at the time, given the look of the hotel, I had to work hard to convince myself that it wasn't blood spatter. I had booked the room on my phone from a rest-stop, sight-unseen, on the Choice Hotels website and, when I got there a few hours later I had to sit in my car thinking about it because it wasn't at all what I was expecting from a Choice Hotel. But I was really super tired, and I didn't want to drive anymore so I decided to at least check it out. The person working the desk was exceptionally nice, so I can't say anything negative about her. She was great and she’s the only reason I didn't rate it "terrible" instead of just "poor." She put me in 205, which she told me was one of the nicer rooms and she also was kind enough to tell me to find a good parking space early on and not to go anywhere so I wouldn't lose my space because the parking lot was going to really fill up. Heading to my room, the elevator was dirty, and the interior was shabby, but I decided to see the room before I complained, and it turned out that the room itself wasn't horrible. The chair was too gross for me to even consider sitting in and that made the cleanliness of the rest of the room suspect. And then there was that red splatter on that bathroom doorframe that looked like a crime scene photo… But when I pulled the comforter down and inspected the bed linens, they were clean and obviously freshly laundered, and the tub and sink were clean, so I covered the pillows with towels and managed to get a pretty good night's sleep even though I could hear people out in the hallway most of the night. When I left at 5 am, the parking lot was jammed to the gills and there wasn't an empty space where a vehicle would fit anywhere near the place, so I was really glad I had listened to the desk clerk and gone to my room and stayed there other than a quick trip to a vending machine. In summary, I would never stay there again and there is no way in the universe that this place should have a Choice Hotels designation. When they contacted me in July asking me to rate my recent stay I told them that but, judging from the recent reviews and the photos, they obviously haven’t done anything with the info I shared with them. Too bad.

Room tip: Look somewhere else.

Dear Mary, I sincerely apologize for your experience while at our hotel. The red spots that you mentioned, I can assure you are not from a crime scene. It was rust. This has been taken care of. I do not know why a desk clerk would tell you that this was one of our nicest rooms. All of our rooms are nice and clean. We have recently passed both Choice and the department of health inspections with a 100 in cleanliness. This is an older hotel and we are constantly upgrading and remodeling something. As for the parking lot, I again apologize for it getting crowded at times. But that is a good sign, that shows we are doing something right. I appreciate you staying with us and thank you for your business.

If you are broke and just need a place to sleep this is it. Bring shower shoes and Lysol.

I used the "Express Deal" option on Priceline not realizing that I might get a hotel on the  west side of 75. Big mistake!  The funny part is I paid $58 dollars per night and I could have called directly to the hotel and got the room for $42.  After reading the reviews here on Tripadvisor I was horrified so I called this hotel and asked for a nice clean room on arrival. I was given a room literally right in the lobby. I immediately told the lady at the front desk that room would be noisy but she promised me it was sound proof ....hahaha! Lies! I could hear people walking and talking and babies crying all day and night. I went right back and asked to be moved and was told "That's what you paid for when you used Priceline."

Let me cut to the chase, the bathroom reeked of urine and the shower was so disgusting I didn't use it. My feet stuck to the bathroom floor, it was repulsive. It was a handicap room. The only thing decent was the bed, the sheets smelled fresh and clean and was reasonably comfortable.  The sofa had something on it that was disgusting. I got exactly what I paid for, Nothing.

Dear Guest, I apologize for you not being satisfied at our hotel. However I also do not appreciate you posting things that are not true. The room you stayed in is one of our most requested rooms. It is clean and does not smell. We just passed an inspection with the Health Department and passed with a 100%. Our hotel is in the process of upgrades and rooms are inspected daily. The rooms are thoroughly cleaned behind each and every guest checks out.

Last night I had the misfortune of staying at the Econo Lodge located at 3022 James Road in Valdosta, Georgia. The sanitary conditions in my room were horrible and the filth that I encountered was disgusting.

The room I stayed in was #205 and I would be very surprised if they have not been aware or contacted in the past in regards to these conditions by other frequent travelers. The walls and doors are filthy and the bathtub was not completely cleaned because it still had hair from the last person who stayed in the room.

We would have left the hotel upon check-in but every nearby hotel I called was completely booked. Switching rooms was not an option because the woman at the front desk indicated there were no rooms left available.

Aside from the inside conditions, I do not believe there is adequate parking for occupancy and this could result in a fine from the fire Marshall. Usually, a place of business has to obtain a certificate of occupancy in the event of an emergency and last night there were people parked in places that were not parking spots.

They really need to look into the cleanliness of the rooms offered as well as the parking conditions outside. There is really no excuse, never mind the filth that was evident in the room that I was staying in.

Dear Angie, Again, I deeply apologize for the condition of your room. As I have stated in another response I have taken care to address and handle these issues. This is not the normal here and I assure you it will be corrected. We do hope to see you again in the future so that we can make a better impression on you.

Kindest Regards,
