I was looking online for lodging for the Notre Dame-UGA weekend. I wanted something on the east side of Athens so that we could avoid the heavy traffic between Atlanta and Athens. I found The GillenHouse in Maxeys. I didn't want to take a chance that it would be booked, so I called them. It was 9:45 p.m. on a Saturday evening, and Edward, one of the owners answered! (Personal Service) To say that we had a great time, would be an understatement. The house is perfectly renovated and beautifully decorated. Our room was spacious and had large (new) windows, Beautyrest King sized mattress, beautiful new fixtures and tile in the bathroom. The house was completely booked, but we felt as if we were the only visitors. It was very quiet. The home is filled with beautiful art created by Cynzia and Edward. There is a putting green and a driving range in the back yard. Plenty of lounging space on the deep porches, the upstairs screened porch, the back deck or beneath the hollies and or the magnolias. Cynzia made the most wonderful salsa from the tomatoes grown in their garden for us our first night. We enjoyed walking on the new Firefly trail that is across the street. We didn't have time to play on their bocce ball court, but hope to next visit. We both slept better than we had in months. We hated to leave.More
