We had to evacuate our home in southwest Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton. With half of south Florida evacuating to the north, finding a room was extremely difficult. We had an awful room in Jacksonville in a Wyndham hotel the night before and now we were moving west behind the oncoming storm and decided to stay in Tallahassee. We had called everywhere and was unsuccessful in finding a room even as far as nearby Georgia. We were at the point that it seemed as if we might have to spend the night in our car when we finally called Marriott and were fortunate to be able to find a vacant room that was available for only one night at Four Points Downtown.
Driving up to the Four Points Downtown, its 1960 interesting design gave the impression that we could be in for a stay in an aging 60 year old facility, but as we walked through the doors, we were swept into one of the best hotel experiences we could hope for. The facility had been completely renovated and well maintained with extensive amenities. The size and condition of the room was exceptional. There is a great restaurant/bar with very well prepared food and exceptional wait staff. In fact, as wonderful as we found the facility, it was surpassed by the service; the staff are all obviously carefully selected and exceptionally well trained to provide the best customer service. Four Points Downtown was the perfect oasis to find to ease the anxiety caused by our need to evacuate from the hurricane's destructive path. We were disappointed that there was no vacancy to accommodate us for another night or two.
Nothing is perfect though. Parking is limited. There is salf parking and I was fortunate to find an undesignated parking space in the full lot. That may have been a condition brought about by the hotel's full occupancy. The other note is that if your room rate doesn't include breakfast, which ours didn't, the $17.99 buffet price is not a good value for light breakfast people such as my wife and myself. But if you're a big breakfast person, eat up; the food and service are good.
All in all, the Four Points Downtown is a great place to stay in Tallahassee under any circumstance. Our experience was so enjoyable that we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else when we come to Tallahassee again.
