The Aloft is a nice and reasonable hotel. The food at the XYZ bar is delicious, and the bartenders are knowledgeable, courteous and attentive.
This is NOT true of the front desk staff nor the coffee/breakfast shop. Each time I walked up to the front desk (at least four-five times during my three night stay), no one bothered to say one word. They just stared and waited for me to speak. It was incredibly awkward. I've never seen that at a hospitality venue.
I had the same experience only much worse at the breakfast/coffee counter. When I walked up to place my order, I was waiting patiently until someone offered to take my order. I was the only one there. They just continued to chat among themselves and busy themselves with side work (no one else was in line). After about 6-7 minutes of no acknowledgement, I was a bit confused. So, I said....."Are you guys open or still setting up?" The woman behind the counter seemed EXTREMELY irritated yet still didn't say anything, just very rudely gestered to the menu on the wall behind her. She was so irritated by my question, I said "I'm sorry-did I say something that offended you in some way?". Her response was simply "NO!" She never did offer to take my order so I just started speaking it. She reluctantly typed it in at that point. Thought perhaps she was just having a bad day, but she had similar behavior the following morning. It's really a shame that the service doesn't match the brand or the level of standards at this hotel. Has potential to be so great!
