Before we even arrived at the hotel, a friend of ours told me that this hotel was known for housing the homeless and drug dealing in the parking lot. We chose to make our own assessment and decided to come anyway. When we got to the hotel there was a line of five people checking in. Each family had their own set of problems checking in. Most of the time it was because the rate was not correct. We waited for our turn and was greeted by a woman who stated she was the only person working that day and was also cleaning the rooms and that’s why it was taking her so long. They were unable to print a receipt for my transaction instead hand writing me a note and signing her name. She promised to slide a receipt under my door as soon as she could. She never did.
We left the facility and went to our event. We came back around 11 PM and When we got back there was still a line of people checking in, all of them having problems. The hallways smelled like marijuana and smoke. There were shady people walking around barefoot-obviously under the influence.
When we went into our room we immediately noticed there was an odd smell. The walls were dirty with brown smears. The floor had white junk mixed into the carpet in several places. The refrigerator bottom was torn off and completely rusted. The toilet was not in good condition. There were hairs all over the bed. The AC smell was moldy. And gave an overwhelming smell of mold. As we were standing there trying to decide if we could stay, there was a knock on the door. It was the same check in lady telling us that we were not supposed to be in that room and that she thought it was empty. This was the same woman who had given us the key and checked us in. We came downstairs and told the woman that we would like a different room because of all of the reasons we listed above. We believed the mold smell would make us ill. She stated that she did not have a room. We asked her to call a manager and she stated there was no manager. She said the only manager they had was in Kansas City. She tried to call someone and no one answered. I asked her for a receipt so that I could get a refund and she stated that she would like to give me a receipt but that we never were checked in. However- the money had been talked from my account. I asked for a refund but she stated she was unable to override the system even though she felt I deserved one. She recommended I call back another time. My husband and I left the premises after spending 10 minutes in that room because we were convinced we would get sick. We then had no hotel to go to and were lucky enough to find friends to take us in well after midnight. I am currently disputing the charges with my bank.
