Exploring St, Marks

We reserved Shell Island Fish Camp from web site informaton,. Important to share, not our first time to the area. Traveling in an RV this time accompanied by friends traveling in their car. Reserved space for our RV and our Friends reserved a bungalow. We had a great time - one has to understand the area is a bit rural which adds to the attraction for us. The new owners were super friendly and explained they had recently purchased the property. We met two couples, camping in their 5th wheels and parked next to us. They had stayed at SIFC before and were quick to point out the improvements the new owners had made and were continuing to make. The views of the river were wonderful. No surprise we had to deal with mosquitos but we travel with bug fogers. We thorougly enjoyed everything about the camp and area, rain or shine and are currently planning to a return visit.
Date of stay: March 2022
Room Tip: Remember this isn't a hotel. It is a fish camp with rv camping sites and cabin style...

All the good reviews are not so true I would really look into this place. It is not clean, it is not safe, no locks on the doors, no way to cook, old bedding, Ect.
The owners do not give you the real TRUTH about the place and no matter how far ahead you give a cancellation you do not get your refund back even if it is 4 months away. They do not inform anyone, no refunds until they give you a confirmation letter.

Room tip: All rooms are non exceptable

Our room was clean, comfortable and neat. It was readily accessible from our car. The shower was TINY and it took a very long time to get hot water. There was no freezer section in the refrigerator. There was no clock in the room and no clothes hangers. There were no reading lights over the chairs. There was no breakfast available.

This is about my daughter’s wonderful experience.

She biked from Tallahassee to St. Marks expecting it to be a day trip, but arrived too late and tired to bike back. She was in St. Marks with no phone charger, no change of clothes, no contact case, and no plan.

She was able to get a room at the Fish Camp, where the daughter of the owners met her and took her to the room, which is a nice room with plenty of space and natural light. Then she gave my daughter a change of clothes! So grateful, and it made a world of difference in her experience.

They pointed her to the restaurant in town and while she was there they left a phone charger in her room, which saved all of us a world of stress when she left in the morning.

Overall, this family took awesome care of her and made this trip a great experience! This is a nice hotel not far from the center of town and it’s laidback vibe is a perfect example of the Big Bend’s charm.

Very rustic! No locks on the doors. We stayed in a two bedroom, one bath with a small kitchen and eating area. You need to bring your own pots, pans cooking utensils, plates etc. They supply you fresh towels, bedding, they also supplied coffee and bath soap. We had a nice screen porch with rocking chairs and a swing. Staff is very friendly and helpful. This is definitely a Fish Camp with no "Frills!"

Room tip: They have new Park Models, hotel rooms and cabins to rent.

This is the first fish camp we've stayed in that didn't have a nice pier to fish from. Plus the entire camp is somewhat dirty and annoying with the forklift moving boats around and beeping quite often. So much for relaxing on the swing on the porch.

Be aware the cabins do not have a key to lock the doors if you decide to leave for the day. It wouldn't really matter because the windows facing the back of the cabin do not lock. The locks on the two front doors are flimsy and the one door barely shut. It has a chain lock to keep it from fully coming open on it's own.

The entire cabin is quite dirty and the sheets on the bed are of poor quality. The bedspread was old and had burn holes in it. The toilet in the bathroom was wedged between two walls making it quite difficult to use and we're normal sized people. Some of the towels stunk from what we don't know what.

Maybe the other rooms such as in the hotel or park model were better but they did not have cooking facilities. This was a very disappointing trip and we're sorry we made it. When we checked out and I complained, I was told it's an old camp. So what! We've stayed in old camps and none were as nasty as this one.

Also, Internet didn't work in our cabin. A big disappointment. Thankfully we had our phone.

We're also wondering how all of these wonderful reviews came about??

Room tip: I don't think there is a good room!
