The view from the balcony of this unit was very nice...4th floor and right on the beach. And the unit is nice and big with 3 bathrooms and large master and second bedrooms. And the security is this building is superior. That is the extent of the good things that we can say about this unit.
The condo itself probably dates back to 1960 or 1970, and it looks like it has had no updates since then. The porcelain on the kitchen sink is gone in a very large area; the master bathtub/shower apparently had some plumbing issues and the repair to the tile was very poorly done; the dishwasher works (somewhat) but the detergent dispenser is broken. Because we had several days of cool weather, we tried to turn on the heat in the unit, and it did not work. Although there was wifi available, it only worked if you were in the bedrooms where the router was located; and the cell service was terrible, and only available in the bedrooms.
Our biggest problem was that we discovered a major infestation of cockroaches after about a week in the unit. We had seen tiny babies at the beginning of our stay but were not sure what they were. After one week in the unit, the giant cockroaches started showing up. The owner of the unit was very responsive when we called him and was obviously upset about the problem. He called in an exterminator the next day, and tried to resolve some of the issue by putting weather-stripping on the door to the balcony; the result was that the door no longer closed properly.
After the discovery of the cockroaches, we started a frantic search for other accommodations but had no luck finding anything immediately. Since we thought the problem had been resolved with the exterminator, we decided to stay there. However, over the next week and a half, we continued to find cockroaches, living and dead, every morning and every time we left the condo for a few hours. So we decided to move to another location that was available later in the month. We explained to the owner that we were moving and the reason, and we requested a partial refund because the move was caused by the cockroach situation in the condo. The owner indicated that he might be willing to grant us a partial refund, but to date (10 days later) we have heard nothing from him.
He appears to be a very nice man and owns a prime location, but he needs to spend some money to bring this unit up-to-date, and needless to say, he needs to resolve the critter problem.
