This was our second visit. We didn't have our motorhome this time but stopped to picnic and walk the beach with a metal detector. I am happy to report it works. Found two lead fishing weights and several bits of beer cans. One piece of encrusted "treasure" dissolved completely after a few hours in a glass of vinegar.

People don't realize the variety of sights and things to do, here at the Sebastian Inlet State Park and the surrounding area. It has a north and a south entrance to the State Park, on both sides of the bridge, which many people don't realize, and they are very different, the two sides. The park has fishing, boating & canoe and kayak & bigger boat rentals, hiking trails in the shade and the sun, bike trails, swimming on the beach and also in a lagoon at higher tide (on the north side) that is perfect and much safer for little kids. There are also two museums (a treasure museum and a fishing museum). There is an admission for the main entrances (good for both sides- keep your receipt!), but there are places you can go that don't require an entrance fee, including some of the hiking trails and access to the quieter beaches, but they don't have bathrooms or facilities. Finally there is a concession stand on the North side for food (not always open and no restaurants real close, so I always bring food and water). And excellent camping, but often the camp ground is full, so you have to make reservations online ahead of time. If you are there and have the time, get a map & drive both sides of the park, and you will realize how much it has to offer.

This is an awesome place. The fishing is great and if you're into staying in RV's you can't go wrong. The beaches are beautiful and very quiet. If you like good food Longpoint Cafe is about a mile north of the inlet. Well worth a visit. They also do concerts in the park which are fun.

We enjoyed this non crowded area with nice size waves and there is some good fishing towards the corner of the Inlet. Beautiful evenings and awesome sunrises. Highly recommend the park for fishing, swimming from the Indian River and the off beaten paths to the beaches

Went twice to the Inlet again on our most recent visit to Melbourne and even though we once again were visited by a manatee during high tide, and really enjoyed walking the fishing pier and saw a guitar fish from above. I don't feel I can wholeheartedly recommend this beach any longer. The people who frequent this beach seemed to have abandoned any sense of stewardship or responsibility for their garbage. It's everywhere, all over the beach on the paths and in the water. The no wake zone for the manatee is flagrantly and deliberately violated by every boater we saw. We went twice while we were there and it wasn't better the second time. Such a shame as this is our favorite place to see manatees and ocean fish.
