Spent a week at Rose Cottage and it was wonderfully relaxing and cosy. Friendly locals in The Crown and great beer & food. Cottage was well equipped for us as enthusiastic self caterers. Utility room also well used as the weather was not always kind, but then there's no such thing as bad weather, only poor equipment! Plenty of wood provided for the fire. Would definitely go again.
Rose Cottage fully deserves it's 5 star rating, it is a cottage with character, beautifully furnished and well equipped with top quality fittings, has a lovely garden and is peacefully situated off the main road through the village. Hesket N/M is convenient for Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth, Carlisle or the Solway coast - plenty of places to explore. The pub in the village The Old Crown) is in very easy walking distance, serves good food and excellent (brewed onsite) beer. There is also a village shop/PO/café. We only found the local footpath information lurking in the bottom of the sideboard in the living room at the end of our stay - and then found this information is also available in a folder in the pub. A minor suggestion - a small table for coffee/drinks to be used by people sitting on the settee ends in the living room would be useful (we improvised with a tray on a dining chair).
we booked and stayed here for a weeks break,,the whole stay was excellent,,all the cottage was clean and tidy and everything that you need was here,,even dressing gowns...well equipped and cozy ,,,nice sized garden for the dog..local shop is great for all the bits you may need and the pub is friendly and the food excellent ,,,well worth a visit..so a great place to stay and will be looking to come during the snowy season as the photos in the cottage looks awesome,,and the fire will just be the finishing touch.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage, the property is lovely, and the garden is bigger than it looks in the photos, Ruby our Irish Terrier loved running from one end to the other. The village is very quiet although the pub 'The Old Crown' does get busy around opening time on an evening (17.30) for an hour or two, every one is very friendly. We would definitely come again.
We've spent several holidays in the Northern Lakes, The back o' Skiddaw being a far more peaceful part of the lakes. We had even stayed in Hesket Newmarket a couple of times before ... so its safe to say we like the place. But this was our first stay at Rose Cottage & it was lovely. Clean, well furnished & well kitted out. Set back from the 'main road' through the village, its in an ideal location. The cows go past twice a day and that's it. We stayed for a fortnight & found plenty to do. We're fond of the trip across Uldale Common to get to Keswick (what fabulous views!), but the trip back is even better as you get to leave the hustle & bustle behind. This part of the country worked its magic on us once again & we are all the happier for it.
