Took an overseas LOTR fan, not something I would normally visit but it was a great experience, even for someone who's never seen the movie. It looks pretty much as it does in the pics, gardens are well tended and it's quite magical. Only gripe is that it's pretty expensive at $89 a head for a 2 hr walk around, certainly wouldn't be able to afford it if I had family.

We booked a tour for both hobbiton tour and glowworms cave which was about $245sgd. Amazing experience for lord of the rings fan ! They gave us one complimentary beer ! Beautiful amazing details elaborated by the tour guide made by the director of the movie. Must go even if you’ve not watched the movie.

I'll be honest, I wasn't that bothered about doing this tour. I had a feeling it was going to be really touristy and possibly a bit naff but my wife was really up for it.
We did the Tour and Lunch from The Shires Rest and when we first arrived my heart kinda sank from the sheer amount of tourists. However... from that point the day just kept on getting better and better. There are so many visitors to this place that they have developed a very smooth operation and to be honest it is a feat they should be very proud of. The tours leave every ten mins and there were over 40 in our group, however the tour never felt rushed. There was ample amount of time to take photos with others in our group being respectful and not photobombing. There was a free drink in the end at the pub and the lunch was high quality (mains and dessert). I'd definitely recommend this as a tour that you will want to do. One other thing I would add is that Hobbiton felt more like visiting a quirky village rather than a film set. The guys have done a wonderful job of making the village flow with everything perfectly in place.

Absolutely awesome. Learning some of the facts and just seeing it. I was the only person in our tour who had read the books as well as seen the movies. It looks perfect. Guides are great. Gift shop a wee bit expensive. Well worth the money. We booked our tickets online and drive there from Rotorua. We did Waitimo Caves in the morning and Hobbiton in the afternoon. Great day

Really good tour of the very well maintained and run film set.
On arrival there’s a really good shop and cafe, then you are bussed down to the film set, where you do a walking tour with very knowledgeable guides. After you have visited all the hobbit houses and learnt interesting facts about how it was put together, you have a beer in the Green Dragon pub (included in the tour price). The pub is great & you can earn extra beers by answering question on the tour!
There is another shop stop available before you board the coach for your return to the start.
A must do for any Tolkien fans.

We were disappointed we didnt managed to book online in time for the tour. We end up trying our luck to book the ticket at Hobbitons office at Rotorua. The staff were friendly and helpful and we end up manage to get 2 tickets. If you are driving drom Rotorua to Hobbitons, it is about 45mins and cost NZD84 for the tickets. However if you prefer to hope on the Hobbitons bus from Rotorua Hobbitons office to its movie set, the ticket is about NZD119. Worth the visit!
