I went to the shubert recently to see finding neverland which was a great show. The shubert itself is beautiful but there are downfalls. If you have balcony seats you have a ton of stairs to go up and down and the stairs to your seats are super steep. I have bad knees and its definitely a struggle. They don't let you in right away if you arrive late which in theory is fine they don't want to disrupt the performance but it's frustrating when theoretically you're on time but the parking garage is full the lots are full and you have to drive in circles looking for street parking. I'm late to almost every show no matter how early I go there. This time I left 45 min early it takes 10 to get there and I was still late. Considering its new haven I guess there's not a lot you can do about it but it's still annoying. There is an elevator but it won't fit nearly enough people so the stairs is always faster but again it's a lot of stairs!!
Theatre is well kept and shows its age well. Seats are for the below average in height and weight. Our mezzanine seats gave us ample view and our fellow opera goers were reasonable in their use of cell phone lights. Yale opera presented Evgeny Onegin. Found the choice to play Onegin curious. If you make it a day or night in town with tickets and a restaurant you will be out $400 dollars easy. Parking is great.
Shubert Theater is a treasure of New Haven. It is a theater that seats 1600 people that was opened in 1914. Back in the day, shows would debut here as a proving ground on its way to Broadway. The seats are comfortable and the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. A great place to see any genre of show, be it a Broadway musical, a comedy show, even concerts. I recommend it highly.
Attended to see the Wizard of Oz; perfect performance., great seats & very enjoyable place
Previous times attended to see the Yale School of Music Opera performance
Excellent stage and orchestra arrangements
saw dirty rotten scoundrels. very good show. only problem was we sat in the balcony and the sound was very low. we have sat there before and did not experience this. I hope it was just a glitch.
Attending a few events, during our one week in New Haven. Our daughter was in Workd Scholars Cup which held their opening ceremony.
All good. Easy to access, good seating.
