The perfect getaway spot

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Jul 2015
We stayed in Cabin A, brought our own drinking water, and had a wonderful time. The cabin faces the Colorado River, which was running too fast and high to do any fishing, but there are stocked ponds and a smaller stream diverted from the Colorado where we were able to fish. It's a quick 15 minute drive to Glenwood. The kitchen was well equipped, but we used the gas grill and the fire pit and the picnic table for out eating enjoyment. Brett, the property manager, provided us with information about local dining and sightseeing and was very accommodating to our requests. We will be back!

We had a great time and the water was fine although we are not used to heavily chlorinated city water.... Cabin was spotless, staff was wonderful, and cost was very affordable compared to surrounding properties. If you want a sterile room go to a chain.

There are some things you just expect to be okay - like water! We checked in to one of the cabins expecting to have 5 wonderful days. I poured myself a glass of water and the sulfur taste was awful. Then I took a shower and the smell was so overpowering that I was gagging. Brushing my teeth was a nightmare, and then I had to drink something else to get rid of the taste. We decided to leave the next morning and try to find somewhere else to stay. We drove over to the owners veterinary practice to tell them about the problem, and were fairly rudely told that they knew about the sulfur problem, and were trying to get it fixed, but that it didn't bother "most" people. When I asked about a refund, I was told that she would speak to her husband about it, but they didn't have to refund anything. We had prepaid approximately $250 per night for 5 nights. I got a one-sentence email a day later saying an amount had been credited to my credit card. When I questioned the penalty by email, I was again rudely told that they didn't have to refund anything and there was a 2-night minimum. We ended up paying for 2 nights - a penalty of over $250. Normally I wouldn't give a bad review, but having been in the travel business for 25 years, I was appalled at the attitude taken by the owner.

Sometimes no matter what you do and how much you try to please people, you cannot. We bent over backwards for this guest and there was no pleasing her. The owners were not rude, they were responding to this guests absurd statements, threatening email and demanding rudeness. We accommodated her and issued a refund though we didn't have to, as our policy states. We wanted to be empathetic to her extreme sensitivity to county well water. We hold high standards at our little resort and stand by it 100%. For her to give this review is absolutely nothing but an attempt to excuse her behavior. We did and always do what is morally and ethically right.

Stayed in one of the cabins in October 2013 for 4 nights. Cabin itself was okay, but the TV was hung too high, over the window and there were dead flies laying around, even after a last minute cleaning by the owner. After initial check in, I never saw the owner/mgr again, even when checking out which was odd.
The area surrounding the cabin was a disappointment (cluttered and a little run down looking)
given the price we paid. There is practically nothing close by other than fishing, so anything else you may want to do (restaurants, shopping, sightsee, hiking, etc.) is all going to require a 15 mile hike back down the interstate which got old. Unless all you want to do is fish, I would definitely recommend looking somewhere else, especially for the cost. In hindsight, we discovered there are better places, closer in, so do your homework.

Ruby River is under new ownership as of 2/5/14.. While we cant change the fact that there is a bit of a travel to Glenwood, there are travels to most destinations anywhere you stay. I will say that we are changing things around there and it will be even better than it is now!!! We are working hard and will do a grand re-opening in the spring introducing our luxury teepees, and additional pond!!! We hope you will give us a try again sometime!!
Our new name is Turtle Tracks Riverfront Resort!

Beautiful luxury state of the art log cabin 20 feet from the Colorado River. This fork starts about 1 mile off the main river and gives you both a gentle riffle area and a deeper canal that has the largest Rainbows & Brown trout I have ever seen or caught!
Check out my pics and videos. The cabin is spotless, comfortable loft bed (high ceiling) with a second bedroom on main floor. Large flat screen direct tv (NFL channel),
high end kitchen and furnishings. 3 cabins, quiet, private & peaceful. Owners Thom & Camille are near by if needed, warm & friendly. I love this place!!

We rented a cabin for Thanksgiving and had a nice family holiday. We were impressed with the quality of the furnishings in the cabin. The kitchen was well equipped. The chandelier is a work of art. The large screen TV had a good selection of channels, but we would have preferred that it not be so high up on the wall. The bedroom and loft bed were comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean, but the water had a strong odor of sulphur. We were glad that we brought six gallons of drinking water as the tap water also had an odor. We liked hiking along the river. A highlight of our stay was sitting outside at night by the outdoor fire pit and watching the sun set behind the mountains. This was a good base of operations as we drove around the area and hiked in the nearby hills and mountains. It was a short drive into Glenwood Springs. Except for the water issue, we would give our highest rating to this relaxing resort.
