“Beautiful falls if the timing of your stop is right!”

On September 12 my wife and I were heading toward Durango and thought we’d stop at Treasure Falls along the way as the reviews sounded impressive. Without a doubt in the spring of the year when the water table is up how much everywhere that falls would be absolutely beautiful. For us that wasn’t the case as the flow coming over the top of the falls was more like a full rain spout of water flowing over the top and cascading into the pool below in the upper section of the falls.

Lovely falls so near the road that hiking is not required as you can see them from parking lot. Of course, climbing up a bit makes the view more dramatic.

It's a great fast ten minute hike that is good for young kids and their is a beautiful waterfall at the top. If you are really adventurous y pi can swim at the very top but it's cold. You defenately want to wear tennis shoes but no need for boots. You can bring your dog, mine had a great time swimming, but you need a leash.

The falls can be viewed from the roadside pull-off but to really enjoy them the hike to the closer viewing areas is worth it. The hike is uphill but the left path is wide, gradual and well maintained.

Bring plenty of water and not suited for kids under 8, lots of strenuous uphills that will get your heart rate up. Path is well marked, views were spectacular, especially in the big meadow (you'll know what I mean) and high cliffs. Waterfall was unfortunately weak when we visited in Aug, best in June.
