Quaint little hotel

Review of Starlight Lodge
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Sept 2019
Quaint little hotel that was clean. Furnishings were very basic. Small bars of soap and a packet of shampoo. Nicer toiletries would have been appreciated. The female owner at check-in was very kind and we enjoyed talking to her.
We were shocked at the price of $140 per night. However, it seemed to be the going rate for a hotel in the area. Many others were well over $200.
It said there was a queen bed, but ours only felt like a full size in room 3.
We wouldn't stay again because of the tiny bed.

The Starlight Lodge knows and accepts exactly what it is: a cheap place to stay while visiting the local hot springs in the midst of an expensive tourist town. We were passing through on a road trip from Mesa Verde to RMNP and stayed overnight in Glenwood Springs. All we wanted was a clean an inexpensive room to sleep in that was near the hot springs pool. Starlight Lodge delivers. It's a 7-10 minute walk to the hot springs pool from here. The rooms are clean and cheap. What more could you ask for? And being from Chicago, we bonded with the Polish innkeeper over sausage. :-)

The staff at Starlight Lodge are so nice that they make the place a delightful place to stay. This is cute place with beautiful European accents. The reception area is especially well-decorated, though small. It is like a small museum with some animal mountings and a collection of European artwork which is also for sale. The local newspaper is complimentary.

The grounds are maintained meticulously with lots of plants. The room was comfortable and had all the required amenities. Location is close to a lot of attractions and restaurants. Certainly an enjoyable and restful place.

If you like locally-owned and a change from cookie cutter motels, this one comes with a an Eastern European vibe. It’s has clean, simple- not posh decor- including unusual bright hand-painted plates on the wall. For a few more dollars, we had a room with a small balcony complete with pink petunias and view of the mountain. It’s squeezed into the downtown area, conveniently located.
It’s less expensive and a nice way to support a small local business.

It was everything we wanted: A short walk from town, near the hot springs, with a generous cancellation policy, no minimum stay, and resonable priced. When we arrived they very kindly picked our bags up at the Amtrak station, they were generous in every offer of assistance, the decor is quirky, and the proprietor was adorably weird. It was the sort of experience that you only get from a family-owned operation that has a vested interest in your happiness. 100% would stay again.
