Review of Hotel Colorado
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Sept 2024via mobile
This hotel is part of the Rocky Mountaineer Tour arriving from Moab, Utah which arrived at 8:00PM. The tour makes all the arrangements including check in, payment as well as providing a room key so I cant comment on the check in process. The hotel was opened in 1883 and has historical significance and is typical of a hotel of this age. There is a large lobby with comfortable seating. Since we were fed on the trainI did not sample the restaurant a meal but observed that there was outdoor dining as well as a full bar.
The hallway upstairs was triple the size of one of today’s hotels and the room itself was only a bit smaller than what one could expect in a modern place. There were exposed pipes and a window AC unit which is to be expected and the AC did go on and off all night but not so loudly as to disturb sleep.
The bathroom was well equipped and the bed very comfortable.

I would consider giving this hotel five stars but wasnt there long enough to really sample everything.

Only giving one star ‘cause zero wasn’t an option.
This historic hotel is crying out for a major renovation. For the insane room rates they charge, guests deserve better than a pathetically out of date bathroom (light switch behind the door, NO vanity space or other horizontal surface to set your toothbrush on), meager water pressure in the showers, barely warm water) and noisy window air conditioners.
When you see the hotel from the outside, it gives you the expectation of grandeur. Your hopes will be dashed when you enter your room. Other reviewers talk about nasty customer service and hazardous or unsafe conditions. I didn’t stick around long enough to discover these issues.
Just stay away.

We stayed here while on our Rockies to the Red Rocks Rocky Mountaineer trip. This is an historic old hotel, which opened in 1892. It was an extremely interesting hotel with comfortable rooms. We would definitely stay here again if we visit Glenwood Springs.

Room tip: As we were only there one night while on a break with the Rocky Mountaineer, we really cannot comment on the value or service.

I expect 3 things from a hotel stay:
A clean room, a hot shower and an environment that allows for a good night’s sleep. The room appeared to be clean but the shower was cold every single day, regardless of timing and the room was stiflingly warm. We paid $500/night our last night and although the rate was less the other two nights, the stay was definitely not worth a fraction of the cost.
I could add detail about many other small issues that added up to a poor experience, but instead I will summarize: I wouldn’t stay here again.

The pros: ceiling fan, light bedding, water in the lobby, location, relatively quiet
The cons: cold water, hot room, bathroom configuration, service

As I was leaving, I was asked how my stay had been. When I mentioned the cold water and hot room, the response was “ Oh that’s too bad.”

Room tip: Avoid staying here.

I have stayed in a number of very old hotels in the past and love the unique experience. However, this hotel is just old and tired. The hotel has been retrofitted to modern standards but management just didn’t do a very good job making it comfortable while retaining the feel of a historic hotel.

I stayed in this hotel for one night. This is a historic hotel. It is close to the train station, hot springs, river walk, restaurants and shopping. Stay here only if you are into historic nostalgia and old-world charm. There is free Wi-Fi, iron, TV, ironing board, no refrigerator or microwave and the air conditioner was a window model that made a lot of noise. The bathroom needs updating. The lobby hallway is full of old interesting pictures. I guess they keep things the way they are to preserve its character.

Room tip: There is no pool
