Ranked #1 of 51 Restaurants in Mount Eden
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Fun fusion a mix of Japanese & Chinese cuisine XOONG, the newest addition to Auckland’s thriving hospitality hub of Mt Eden Village offers diners contrasting flavours of Asia in a series of captivating dining rooms. Drawing from North East Asian influences, one is immersed into the bold and textural design of the 150 seat restaurant. Over two stories diners will find intimate spaces and secluded dining areas juxtaposed by minimalist Japanese and intricate Chinese designs. Opposite the cocktail bar a canopy of dramatic red lanterns leads you past the open kitchen and chef tables to the courtyard, offering guests a delightful journey of discovery. China and Japan make strange bedfellows as their tumultuous history would tell us and this dramatic past is the inspiration for the restaurant. Xoong beautifully marries this theme with the ever-popular aromas of a Vietnamese kitchen simultaneously tying the styles together and creating a menu of big flavours that is unmistakably unique.

Yummy food and lots of good things to chose from. Chicken curry was good. Salmon curry was good. Choc mousse dessert was great and plentiful with yummy lemon icecream.

A friend and I dined at Xoong last night.
We decided to order x2 small meals (entrees) each. What a great decision!
We shared a total of x4 entree meals, which were beautifully balanced for flavour and taste. Meals were completed just right and each of the pieces could not be faltered
Flavoursome, tasty and moist meals were just right.

Desert was different and also excellent.

Staff attention was good, with an interesting waitress, who was informative in a very pleasant manner, giving good guides for meals we chose!

We had dinner here upon recommendation of a friend. It was a little hard to find at first but we managed to locate it walking further down then where Google maps sent us. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance, warm, and tastefully decorated. The waitress attending to us was very knowledgeable, friendly and provided great service, recommending signature dishes and explaining them to us. We tried a selection of entrees and mains. The Peking duck was delicious as is the popping prawns, and yakitori chicken. The beef curry was authentic and had lovely western and Asian flavours. They were delicious overall. Only thing we didn’t give 5 stars was the pad Thai was not very pad Thai-ish in our opinion. Servings were elegantly plated. Overall an enjoyable experience for the palate.
