Great Staff

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Mar 2024
We maybe didn't travel at the best time of year to Serenity Islands however this is no fault of anyone but ourselves.

The staff were lovely and I will definitely return in a more appropriate season next time, even though we had some torrential rains over our stay it was still an enjoyable and romantic getaway.

Oh dear, I’m not sure where to start with this one. The trip was, well, not good. The food was absolutely awful, and I mean awful. We paid for the “all inclusive” package (more on that in a minute), and we elected to skip meals or eat on the mainland because it was just that bad. The drinks were not any better - you’d receive a mystery in a glass if you ordered something as simple as a mojito. I enjoy my bevvies on vacation, and I just couldn’t here. Everything tasted like rubbing alcohol, and the wine was vile. The bartenders really have no idea what they are doing. Needless to say, we barely drank.

Now, on to the “all inclusive” portion. So after paying an additional $1200 each for the all inclusive - we arrive only to find out that it’s not actually all inclusive. I searched high and low through the fine print on EVERYTHING and I did not see this stipulated anywhere…they just tell you when you get there, and only if you ask. Thank god I did. The spidey senses were tingling. So, you get three meals a day, and you only get to enjoy the “all inclusive” bevvies during meal times. Meal times are scheduled. Anything outside those meal times, you’re paying for it…whether you’re in the all inclusive package or not.

Okay, now on to the cleanliness portion. We were supposed to receive daily house keeping. We did not. Finally on our third day, I went to reception to ask what we were doing wrong. Apparently, nothing. Housekeeping just was straight up skipping our room. Eventually she came by I think on day five?? Then didn’t clean the shower, which was full of sand after five days. We also received dirty bedding at one point.

The air conditioner in our room was broken and flooded the floor, the tv didn’t work the entire 10 days we were there. There were geckos and cockroaches in our room, and there was non stop construction happening during the day. There were several nails sticking out of the run-down pool deck. And we booked a boat trip one day, just to have them leave without us, even though we arrived 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Not like there were many people on the island…not enough to forget you had a booking - that’s for sure. The trip was terrible.

The only thing I can say for this place is that the staff were friendly. Very friendly. But after leaving this hotel to jump ship to another after ten days, I’m pretty sure the staff are friendly at any other resort as well.

As this was our honeymoon, we were incredibly disappointed. However, it’s now a memory we can look back upon and laugh - and advise people never to partake in. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for your stay in Fiji.

Room tip: If you do book in here, make sure it’s a short stay.

Beds were comfortable, Staff were friendly. However unfortunately we did have some bad experiences with the booking agent. We paid up front for an all inclusive holiday including meal packages for 7 people. On arrival to Fiji we were told they forgot to let us know that the meal packages had increased, and that transfers were not included in our all inclusive holiday. We had to pay taxi which was return $300 to the marina and the boat transfer cost was not communicated either ($1550 return for 7 people). All together this was an extra $2000 we had to come up with on the day we landed that we were not prepared for didn't start our holiday well. We have been to Fiji many times and we have never had this happen. The snorkling was amazing, which was a plus, however the poor staff didn't obviously receive supplies as many meals we would ask for were not available (and we had purchased the meal package), the bar ran out of vodka , khalua, rum, tia maria and more..... so very tuff to get a cocktail without those ingredients. We had to bring our own alcohol to the bar tender that we bought duty free. The people are so lovely and it wasn't the staffs fault, I felt sorry for them. Even though we had all these problems we did have a wonderful holiday, the fijians on the island took us to the super rugby game on the mainland which was an awesome experience, I saw a shark snorkling only a few meters in front of our bure and our kids loved every minute of their time on the island.

Room tip: Bring your own snorkle gear as they had none and dont order all inclusive meal/drink packages as they didnt have everything.

We went here for the start of our honeymoon. From the get-go, the entire staff worked hard to learn our names, build a rapport, make us feel welcome, and were so friendly all the time. The food was delicious and the drinks were superb! In our bure, the team used flowers to write “I love U” on our bed - great touch! Sammi was always so cheery, Susie worked the bar while always bringing a smile to our face, and Grace was ver accommodating to book us trips as-needed to the mainland. The whole team worked hard to make sure we had a good time, including organizing a cultural excursion to the mainland for us! We loved the daily turtle and fish feedings, and the snorkeling around the island was next-level with many colorful reefs and bright fish. We’re so appreciative of all the warm hospitality the folks at Serenity Island extended our way to make sure the start of our honeymoon was something we’d never forget!

Loved our stay there, magical island. Staff was wonderful and helpful.
Nice and quiet place. We snorkeled and swam every day. Most beautiful place.
Local fish dish was our favourite.
Loved it!
Special thanks to (Spider-Man) volleyball king Sammi, Mr T, Joshua, Jo and the bartenders.

Room tip: Just enjoy!
