“Fun place for music”

Sutter Creek Theatre

This theatre sends you back more than a century to slower times. It is small by modern standards which allows you to be close to the performers (we sat in the second row). The acoustics are better than expected for an old, wooden theatre. It is easily found and located on Sutter Creek's Main Street. The variety of performances are intriguing—we were there for classical music! It is walking distance to restaurants and lodging. But note that it is not a restored theatre—it is shabby; the seats, although comfortable enough, are wearing out; it was cold at our performance; parking is a challenge in remote lots or street parking (one reason we walked from our hotel); you hold your breath when anyone walks up the decrepit stairs to the stage. If this is O.K. with you (and the reason for our rating) then go and have a good time like we did!

My wife and I prefer smaller venues for music concerts. The Sutter Creek Theater is a gem of a performance venue in the heart of historic Sutter Creek. We have gone there twice now for concerts and have enjoyed sitting up front and close to the performers. It is a well preserved theater with lots of character. The acoustics are good and the performers are close to you like being in your living room. The proprietors are very friendly and show great pride of ownership in the theater. They don't get top name entertainment, but everyone we've seen have been top quality. I highly recommend for a fun and intimate concert.

We have been visiting gold country CA for many years. This theater is in a beautiful little town with lots of history. We have seen about 4 performances here, 2 were tribute bands and 2 were other musicians and......each time we have been blown away by the talent. Also, perhaps because of the way this building was constructed in the early 1900s, the sound and sound system is UNREAL! Lastly, it is a SMALL theater, seating perhaps just under 200 with a small, cute balcony. Do not expect a Broadway theater or even a modern movie house place! But, if you are into history and GREAT ENTERTAINMENT, the Sutter Creek Theatre is for you. Check them out online.

The finally each year seems to be Sourdough Slim and his friends for what seems like forever. This year was no different. The place was pretty packed and Sourdough didn't not disappoint! Together with Faux Renoir, Cactus Bob, Prairie Flower, Robert Armstrong and all, they enthralled the crowd with both humor, their repertoire of their well-known and original songs and of course, Christmas favorites. Overall, the performance went into overtime to much appreciation of the audience! My friends who had never been here and only have heard me talk about both places were totally thrilled and can't wait to return for another pleasant and joyful evening!

All in all, Byron and Laura have created a favorite and intimate venue with this great, nearly 100 year old, community asset!

I've been going here since March 2014 and I love it. Every weekend I find a new group to love and they're always my "favorite." lol

They serve beer, wine, cookies from Andres in Amador City, and soda.
