“A Home Away from Home”
Reviewed 27 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Beautiful location, pictures were true to what was expected, beautifully decorated, full kitchen - equipped to entertain as it even included cloth napkins, table settings and placemats! All five beds were comfortable and everything was immaculate, including the refrigerator and oven. The vicinity was close to the beach, Montecito Village and Santa Barbara. Great for walking, biking sightseeing and shopping. It does back up to Highway 101 but the noise didn't seen to bother us.

Liked best: The openness of the kitchen, dining and living room space. For a large group it is a perfect setting.
Liked least: That it backed up to Highway 101.

“ideal location!”
Reviewed 11 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We were in California with my 80+ year old parents and 2 teenagers for a wedding and this home was EXACTLY what we needed and hoped for, the location was great - three minute bike ride to the beach with the available bikes, short walk to Jeanine's for wonderful breakfast pastries, exactly as described, can't wait to return :o)

“Great house in a great location”
Reviewed 10 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We wanted a house to suit 7 people from age 80 to 24 and this fitted the bill. The house is in a great location. It's a short stroll to the beach past the Four Season Biltmore Hotel, with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops an equally short walk in the other direction. Santa Barbara is a short drive/bike ride away and there's plenty to do and see. The main open plan living area is nicely furnished with some artwork and spacious with a well equipped kitchen. There are bikes, beach chairs and boogie boards stored in the garage for guest use and out back is a decent hot tub, patio set and table tennis. All the bedrooms are a good size Two of them share a bathroom. The house backs onto Highway 101 but that didn't bother us at all. We had to reset the wi-fi a few times but no big deal. It's a great house overall and apart from a few housekeeping tweaks - easily solvable - I would recommend it highly.

“The perfect place to unwind”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I came to Santa Barbara in desperate need of a space to relax. As a teacher in New Orleans, SoCal seemed like a fantastic getaway and holy cow, Montecito Village Retreat was the perfect place to release.

I had come to MVR on a verbal recommendation from a friend. The first thing you'll notice is the open floor plan. The owners told me they had just opened up the kitchen during a renovation and it was gorgeous. A granite island, huge dinner table, and chalk board were utilized as our meeting space when we took day trips to hike (a 10 minute drive from incredible hikes in Los Padres), swim (a 5 minute walk from the beach, a beach that feels almost private, not in the clutter of Santa Barbara but certainly walkable to there as well), or just go out on the town. The space in the house is beautiful.

All the amenities are exactly what you would ask for. Beautiful, clean bathrooms and bedrooms. Comfy couches meant for afternoon naps and early evening reading. We just travelled with friends, but the house is split nicely so the bedroom spaces have their own wings with bathrooms and privacy.

What makes MVR the place to go is location. It is situated West of Highway 1, making your walk to the beach simple. Or your walk to Jeannine's for brunch. Or your bike ride into Santa Barbara. It is tucked away, a true retreat, while remaining so easily connected.

Go! But only if you want the perfect place to relax.

“awesome remodel keeping the original mid century vibe”
Reviewed 8 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This was our first trip to Santa Barbara and we felt lucky to have happened upon such a great location. The kitchen and baths have been meticulously renovated. The kitchen is a dream with a bank of windows overlooking the newly landscaped front, carrara marble countertops, stainless steel appliances, fireclay farm sink, lots of white dinnerware and plenty of serving dishes, glasses and flatware for a small party. We loved the open concept kitchen, dining and living that lead out to the back garden with a ping pong table, spa, and lush landscaping. The dining room has a farm table with 6 mid century chairs and an oversized industrial chrome shelving unit full of more servingware. The living area has a large flat screen tv and a sofa we called the pit because it was so comfortable that once we fell into it we didn't want to get out. There were plenty of books and games available. Off of the main room was another fun den with a tv which would be perfect for kids to have their own space. The bathrooms have all been recently redone with top of the line plumbing (Rohl and Kohler), carrara marble tops, basketweave tile on the floor and white subway tile on the walls. The host provided plenty of plush white towels as well as shampoo, soap and conditioner in all the baths. Parking is a breeze. Previous reveiwers have complained about the freeway noise and yes, this house does back up to the 101 but that is also what makes it so quick and easy to explore the area. Our first night we enjoyed dinner at San Ysidro Ranch then got up in the morning and walked over to a coffee shop two blocks away. We then walked along the beach into Santa Barbara for the art fair that seems to happen every Sunday. On our walk back we ate at the Bath house. We spent the rest of the day enjoying drinks on the back patio with a few games of ping pong before heading out to the Funk Zone for dinner. One of our days we drove thirty minutes into Santa Ynez for a lovely bike tour through the vineyards, lavender farms and olive groves- a must do day trip. We loved the village of Montecito and recommend getting fresh cold pressed juice at the juice shop on Coastal Village and if you are an ice cream lover then Rori's should not be missed. We finished our trip with breakfast at Jeanine's and even though the day we went their griddle was broken we managed to find plenty of delicious options and even took some bakery items with us to have on the plane. This was a fabulous trip to a lovely place in a great house.
