A wonderful place to stay for a short trip

Review of Hotel Normandie
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Aug 2021
The location is excellent, surrounded by safe and clean neighborhood. i value room cleanness the most. The room we stayed in was definitely meet my requirement for cleanness. And the bed was comfortable enough. With good service and amenities in fair price, i think Normandie is a wonderful place to stay for a short trip in LA.

This hotel has a first rate staff on the desk and they go out of their way to make sure a guest is welcomed and assisted - much appreciated!
I had read good things about The Normandie Club which is around the corner and up the street from the hotel lobby but the reality surpassed what I had read. I had the good fortune to meet Tish who truly has great bartending skills. The bar has a great vibe and the Pisco Sour Tish made was even better than those in Peru. Her Szerac was over the top and it was amazing to watch the steps taken to create the drink. Can't wait to go back!

I booked this hotel from 10 am to 4 pm. And got two knocks then opened the door without my consent. It was beymar who said I had to check out or get an extension. I was surprised that he opened the door without my consent. And secondly my checkout wasn’t until 4 pm. I asked for a manager and said that HE is a manager! Later I called to speak with a supervisor and got J.R B and was rude on the phone and stated their protocol is to knock twice then to open the door! That is absurd! That is invasion of privacy and felt really uncomfortable that I had to leave immediately.

Beymar Blanco, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Normandie, responded to this reviewResponded 26 August 2021

Hi Abraham, I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience but would like to further explain the situation. We work with day-use reservations that offer check-in starting at 10 am and check out at 4 pm instead of overnight stays that have checkout at 12 pm or 1 pm. Closer to 12:30 pm we call and review our daily checkouts at our hotel. Unfortunately, our daily departure report does not exclude Day-use rooms as those are technically considered a checkout for the same day and missed the DayUse note before revising your room which is, without doubt, my mistake. However, I knocked twice and announced myself, and waited for a response which there was none before opening the door. I admit that I could have waited a few seconds longer or announced myself louder before opening the door but I did follow standard hotel protocol. After slightly opening the door, I glimpsed inside and immediately see you standing at the doorway. I politely mentioned that check-out was at 1 and asked if some additional time was needed or if the reservation should be extended. You mentioned that your check out was at 4 pm and I again mentioned that check out was at 1 pm and immediately realized that I had you noted down for a day-use room that does check out at 4 pm. I did go ahead and apologize and explain that I missed the note on your reservation. Shortly after reviewing the remainder of my departures, we met at the front desk where I attempted to further explain my mistake and our process but was scolded and called several indecent names which were very excruciating and degrading. Given the situation and understanding of my mistake, I went ahead and fully compensated you for the inconvenience. We also had a Dayuse representative reach out asking for additional compensation for your stay. After explaining to them what occurred they also felt that the full compensation was sensible and hospitable. Sorry again and if there is anything else we can assist you with please let me know.

Booked 2 rooms through Hotel Tonight App which usually has a limited selection of whatever is available last minute, but the staff was able to make sure our rooms were close to each other which was extremely thoughtful. The beds were extremely comfortable and although the toiletries could use an upgrade (BIGELOW hand soap had weird residue feeling) the bathrooms were spotless. Check In/Out experience was a breeze, along with valet service across the street. Would recommend!

Love this well managed Hotel. Great staff and very accommodating...customer centric. The location is great and just a 5 minute walk from some great, diverse dining options in K-Town. Great atmosphere and truly iconic LA vibe. The Normandie Room Bar next door shouldn't be missed. Nice crowd and great bartenders....nice place for nightcap.
