I don't spend a lot, of or any really, of time online writing reviews but my wife and I have never seen worse in Turkey. We love the area of Rize and we decided to visit the Kackar mountains this time around. The closest place to explore the mountains is Ardesen. Boy, were we in for a surprise. Our plane arrived late into Trabzon airport 2 hrs. away. By the time we got to the hotel there was a group of rowdy people in the lobby drunk and drinking we thought they were badly behaved guests but actually they were staff, a group of 20 something men drunk and rowdy who "ran" the hotel. Next we saw the ceiling ad a huge leak and water was leaking onto the lobby floor. we thought about going somewhere else but we aren't 20 and it was very late at night. So we just politely waited while one of the partiers got us a key. I don't usually write reviews online because I don't like spending my time indoors. BUT I am making an exception because this place was unbelievable. a madhouse from start to finish and my wife was scared. one of the men seated had a gun. I am not against guns per se but they were drinking. and that's no place for a gun. the room was muggy and the sheets smelled of mildew. the bathroom light did not work and the room was dirty. we just couldn't believe our first night was at this place. I don't recommend it for young women travelling alone or for anyone, really. Turkey is a wonderful place but this hotel was grotesque and we heard it has quite the reputation(negative) among locals in ardesen and rize not just travelers who actually experienced this hell hole first hand.
