Stopped in the Barrelworks to pick up a birthday gift for a friend and were delighted to be assisted by a staff member who helped us that day. He explained the different ales being made, told us a bit about the process, and gave us several tastings, helping us choose just the right gifts for our friend.

Nice, extensive beer selection. The decor of the pub/restaurant is really cool. Service is OK, but they do tend to cater to the locals and give spotty service at best to anyone new. The food is average. I've been here twice and can't say I've had anything that was outstanding - it's just standard bar food. If you are staying at the Hampton or Marriott, you are within walking distance - but not a place that I'd consider a "destination" brew pub.

Firestone Walker was conveniently located next to the hotel we were staying at. We ended up going to dinner there twice and really enjoyed. Great soup. Pizza was fantastic. Fish and chips delicious as well as the flat iron steak. Beer was good, just to many for novice craft beer drinks to choose from.

Food is very good and somewhat different in a good way. Great and unique atmosphere. But if you like "real" beer, it's rare. You'll have to specifically tell the staff what you want and taste 3 or 4 before you find one. The Barrelworks stuff they mostly sell tastes more like an experiment of unknown chemicals. I'll go back now that I know what to drink.

I have always been a fan of Firestone Walker's beers...except 805. For truly interesting and sometimes challenging beers, this is the place to go. Tasted many, many beers that day, both in the front and back rooms (sours). Got a great tour from Micah, who was very generous with his time. Only downside was that they forgot our food order, and that threw off our plans a bit. Look forward to returning very soon.
