We enjoyed a week long family reunion with 10 to 12 kids and grandkids. This comfortable house fully met our expectations with a more than an ample number of bedrooms (and air mattresses when needed), three bathrooms and showers that never turned cold. Although there were many excellent restaurants in all price ranges a short drive away, we were able to cook for the whole gang without any problem. One of the more ambitious daughters even made a plum tart from plums gathered from a tree by the next door tennis court.
The backyard provided fun for young and old with a grassy area, a rope swing (the four year old wanted to take the swing home) and a basketball backboard for those who wanted to swoosh the basketball through the hoop.
The Berkeley Rose Garden is around the corner as is a great playground for kids. Tilden Park is a short drive away. A Safeway and a Trader Joes are nearby and the Berkeley Bowl a bit further away but well worth a visit to find incredible produce. One can walk to Shattuck Avenue and check out the Gourmet Ghetto and lots of eating out choices.
Finally the view from the front of the house includes the bay, San Francisco and on a clear day, the Golden Gate Bridge.
We couldn't have made a better choice and Nelson, the owner, was very accommodating and had some good restaurant recommendations.
We loved the location, all the greenery so close around and the nice views. My kids enjoyed being able to walk right into the Rose Garden and play tennis on the public courts there -- and also get to the Codornices playground without having to cross a street. The big concrete slide there was a big hit for the kids and the adults too. Highly recommended!
Deirdre and Family came to our rescue accommodating us on very short notice when another home we reserved cancelled on us last minute. Our family of 14 total guests ranging from age 2 to 78 years was in town for the Memorial Services of our cousin/my Godfather. It was a solemn occasion and our family needed to and wanted to convene together to share memories. Immediately from the start, Deirdre offered her condolences and did absolutely everything we did and did not ask for to make our stay warm and reassuring. This stay was a gift. Our house guests all arrived and departed at varying times. My parents were able to check in and out of the home on their schedule which was so helpful. Having a 2 year old and two 6 year olds with us presented no challenges given the home is child friendly and a happy home with lots of natural light and children/family photos and complimenting the living space. This home is filled with love. All guests were satisfied with their experience, young and old alike. The Almanzan family is grateful to Deirdre, Nelson and family for allowing us this long weekend experience in their home. Thank you.
