Review of Castle Namedy

Castle Namedy
Ranked #3 of 40 things to do in Andernach

A lovely "small" castle located within the Andernach area that offers occasional musical events, hosts weddings and, on this occasion, a dinner for 160+ people. One is able to walk through several rooms of the castle and out in the garden with little restriction. It is a very well maintained property and highly deserving of a visit if you get the chance

We went to Namedy Castle as part of our APT cruise and what a highlight it was. Every aspect was absolutely perfect! The grounds are beautiful, roses flowering abundantly at the time of our visit. The castle itself is certainly very old so maintenance must always be an issue but given the description of it's run down state at the time Princess Heide and her husband took it over there have been major renovation projects carried out to bring it up to it's present condition. The food served at dinner was beautiful, the classical musical recital amazing, and Princess Heide was there in person to welcome us and tell us about the history of the castle. A very special evening!

We went to this place as part of an APT river cruise, Burg Namedy is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Rhine river. We did a tour of the castle and the beautiful gardens. The castles history dates back to the 14th century. We had a lovely meal in the Hall of Mirrors and the most amazing piano recital. Wonderful night out.

This outing was part of our river cruise and was billed as an exclusive offering, only to find that it is available on the web for anyone to book. The castle itself was a disappointment. Grand it isn't compared to other buildings we've view on trips to Europe. The building's features were not even up to the standard of our own home, an Edwardian. The grounds were in ordinary condition with the lawn full of weeds. One of our group stood in dog business. The table setting was similar to that provided at a cheap wedding with ten of us cramped onto a table suited for no more than eight. I'm a big bloke and had a table leg right in front of me, so without comfortable access to the table. The acoustics in the dining room couldn't cope with the crowd and the noise level was, at times, unbearable. On a positive note, the pianist was brilliant and by far the highlight of the evening. The event proved to be far less than my expectations.

I don't know where to start but from the moment we were taken through the gates and entered the courtyard, we were taken into royalty. Champagne and canapés on arrival and then a heart warming introduction to this beautiful castle by Princess Heide herself who was such a heartwarming genuine person. We were invited to explore the rooms and the gardens. After this, into the mirror ballroom for a lovely meal. We had a beautiful pianist tickle the ivories and it took me back in time. All I can say is this is a beautiful place and an amazing experience. Huge highlight on our trip.
