This was an amazing experience to be able to be in the same spot where the great Purandara Dasa composed his work by the great Tungabhadra river. The cool, shady mandap (pavilion), the refreshing river flowing by and the spiritual experience was indescribable especially if you are fond of Purandaradasa's compositions! The coracle ride to the pavilion was great too!

It’s a well-known fact that the great 'Father of Carnatic music' - Sri Purandara Dasa, composed songs while he was in Vijayanagara and he sang in the Durbar of King Krishnadevaraya. This mantapa has been erected on the banks of River Tungabhadra and it is dedicated to Sri Purandara Dasa and there is his statue inside. Near to this place, one can see the ruins of the old bridge built by Vijayanagara Kings and this bridge connected Anegundi to Vijayanagara.

The mandapa is located along the riverside and it is advisable to visit the temple during summer since the water levels might be low. During rains, it will be difficult to visit the temple and there are chances of flooding since the temple is very close to the river.

This mandapa is almost in the middle of the river with several pillars. Its a good visit. You can either reach this place from the Kodandarama Temple from near Virupaksha Temple of from Vitthala Temple.
