Review of: Petra

Amazing! never saw something like this in my life. We had a very exciting guide and even though you can do it all by yourself, I would recommend getting a guide, because he really took us off the beaten track, having some drinks with locals, far away from the crowded places. Because of all these detours we did add some extra km and it was really exhausting. But Petra itself was just amazing. I wasn't a fan though of how they treat the donkeys and camels here. They really made overhours and looked very tired and sad :( If you would like to do a camel ride you could better do this in Wadi Rum, where the camels are treated much better I think. For Petra I would recommend to let a jeep take you to the back so you can walk up to down, which is less tyring because of all the steps.

A must do when in Petra
August is the hottest month in Jordan so please go early.
I think gates open at 6am and it takes about 5 hours there and back.
Second day you can visit some other sites.
Was amazing.....

Review of: Petra

Breathtaking rock cut architecture in rose colored walls. I have visited in November 2019. Please make sure you stay in line to change your Jordan Pass ticket to a normal ticket, otherwise you will be turned back from the ticket check entrance in the site. Once you enter the site, you will be approached for donkey and horse rides, and the offers will go so far as being advertised as free or included in the ticket price. Walking from the entrance until the end and back took me around 4 hours with small breaks. Someone created a Google Map with all the trails that you download office to your phone - check it out. The Treasury and the Monastery are most impressive. You do not need a guide to explore the site and it is safe. If you have the chance, allocate yourself two days for this experience. The area is packed with tourists and overcrowded during the weekends.

Review of: Petra

Getting there as early as you can enhance your experience significantly. Petra opens at 6:30 am. Not only the weather will treat you more kindly, but also the light comes down the Siq in a special way and your pictures will be outstanding!

The walk from the main entrance (visitor center) to the entrance of the Siq is 1.8 km, takes 25 mins to walk it. No shade, gravel road. It's ok to make the walk on the way in, but later in the day when you are tired, it's best to take a horse at the entrance of the Siq, they only require 3JD as tip to take you back to the Visitor Center.

Once at the start of As Siq, the amazing, beautiful and incredible walk to the treasury is 1.2km of that narrow pasage.

The Treasury is where the city begins. It's a huge place and 3 days will not be enough to cover it all.

Highly recomendable to make the hikes by donkey (horses can't go). We were very fortunate to meet Awda, who had extremely well trained donkeys and with his 15 yeras of experience doing this and him being a Bedouin living at the Petra Village, he also did a great guiding job!!! Not only he has all the information on the spectacular places in Petra, but he also knows all the best angles to take the best pictures. Whattsapp him to secure your ride up: +962 7 7614 0984, you will be VERY glad you did! The hike up to the Monastery (Ad-Deir) is 3.3 km, including 800 steps up. It requires condition! Or a nice donkey :)

We also went to the High Place of Sacrifice which offers amazing views of the whole Petra area and the tomb of Aaron. That hike includes. 700 means steep steps. Also doable by donkey.
