This was a one week ski trip with friends. We followed the owners advice and hired a car from Sophia airport and drove to the location. Bansko has a wide variation for skiers, you rarely had to wait more than a few minutes at the lifts and there were reasonable off piste options. The accommodation is clean, spacious and has a private garden set on the outskirts of the village and so is in a rural quiet setting but with a few english speaking neighbours close by. There were a number of suggestions for eating out and these ranged from mid-range restaurants to more basic Bulgarian fair. There was one particular restaurant in Rastiog where no english was spoken but everyone made us so welcome and the food was incredible, especially after a hard days skiing. We ate like kings and had to work hard one evening on the drinks bill to achieve £9 a head! The owners did suggest a great outdoor natural spa pool with restaurant which eased the aching muscles and filled our stomachs with traditional bulgarian foods. Value for money was the outstanding factor, the whole trip, travel, ski passes, ski hire, food and drink was half the price of doing the same in Chamonix, our usual place. We will definitely be coming back and would like to try it during the summer as the area to the north looks like it would be great for cycling, walking and fishing.
