My wife, son and I just returned from Now Larimar last night and we all agree it was an outstanding vacation! We booked through AAA, and every aspect of the trip was top notch.We were in the Preferred Club and were greeted warmly the moment we entered the resort by Rafael, who provided excellent service, made sure we were treated like royalty throughout visit and treated us to a few surprises to make us feel extra special ... mucho gracias, Rafael!!!

Our room was beautiful, along with the view from our balcony, and was clean and well-maintained. Our son had a separate room and after a couple days, the A/C stopped blowing cool air. We stopped by the lobby on the way to an excursion to mention it and by the time we returned later in the day, the A/C was fixed and working perfectly.

The buffet restaurant was overflowing with wonderful choices and our two nights eating in a couple of the "specialty" restaurants were very enjoyable. There was certainly no shortage of food choices and we all enjoyed eating the Dominican foods very much ... however, if you wanted more traditional "home" foods, there were plenty of options.

The pools were excellent, and the staff made it easy to either relax or be engaged in more physical activities if you wanted.

There were plenty of bars and a special commendation to Ronny in the Preferred Club bar, who took good care of us throughout the week!

We did two excursions (Saona Island trip and dune buggies at Bavaro Adventure Park) and both were a blast! Special thanks to the folks at Amstar (especially Tomas), and arranged our transportation to and from the airport, as well as the two excursions, and everything went as smoothly as could be.

On Wednesday night, there were what we assumed were local merchants who set-up in the courtyard area to sell their wares (jewelry, art, etc.). Many of them were a bit too aggressive in trying to sell you, at times trying to physically drag you to their area, so I'd say that was the only negative about the whole trip ... it made you want to avoid the whole area because it was just annoying being bothered by some of their aggressive tactics.

Other than that, were couldn't have imagined a more wonderful vacation, and we wouldn't hesitate to go back to Now Larimar! Most of the people we encountered both in the resort and on the excursions were beautiful people who seemed to be genuinely thankful that we chose to vacation in their country and were grateful for us being there ... mucho gracias to the excelente people of the Dominican Republic. We love you and your country ... Ariba!!!

Family of 5: We were upgraded to rooms in Preferred Club section but without having access to Preferred Club amenities. Rooms were spacious and clean. The main pool is clean and happening with lots of entertainment and activities going on throughout the day. Special thank you to Juan Carlos Villorio, our favourite server at Carnival buffet restaurant for his friendliness and great service throughout the week. Thank you also to Maria from the delicious coffee shop next door to the main lobby:) Excellent service and friendly service from both of them. Try the Japanese restaurant, it was excellent. Don’t go to the Bluewater grill...the food was terrible and the only negative thing about the resort. We would go back again:)

Although the staff are amazing and are full of energy and drive, it is not just the staff that makes for a great holiday, unfortunately, the hotel did not deliver on any other front.I should be clear that this review is based on the standard facilities available, and not the services associated with the "preferred club" which would have cost and additional $900 if booked as an upgrade at the hotel for 14 nights!
Generally the hotel is tiered and in need of some care. Our bedroom was fine, but the bathroom fixtures and fittings were in need of repair.
The food was hit and miss, especially in the buffet restaurant where the food was only just warm on a number of occasions. The crockery and glassware should be sorted and replaced as it is chipped and damaged.
The drinks available were sufficient, but I have an issue with the glasses and coffee cups being replaced with plastic and paper at 22.15. Obviously the hotel assumes that guests are unable to moderate their drinking in an all inclusive hotel and will be blind drunk, smashing glasses by this time.
I would class this hotel as a family hotel due to the number of kids that were running around, even in September. I mention the kids as the hotel was part of a particular holiday companies signature range, which although not adults only, should also not be heavily family orientated either.
The in house entertainment team are full of energy and do their very best to encourage guests to participate in the usual pool side antics. I don't have a problem with this, but turning the speaker volume down so guests who chose not to participate are able to listen to an audio book or music etc would have been appreciated. It's the first time the external music has intruded into an AC/DC and Slash headphone session. A variable play list would also have been advantageous, instead of exactly the same music each day.
In short, this is not the 5 star hotel it is billed as, and I believe that the extent of the facilities available only to the "preferred club" is at the expense of the remaining facilities available to us mere mortals.
I believe there are much better hotels available for the same money.

Room Tip: The preferred club rooms overlook the beach.

Everything incredible from start to finish.

The attention of the staff and kindness are a part that distinguishes the hotel.

The buffete food much better than I expected, and the beach very beautiful.

The quality of music by the duo that played in the main square my wife and I were surprised with Ivan and Samuel, incredible artists who heard the hotel.

The quality of the drinks and the part where we were daily was the bowling hall.

We will definitely return.

As resorts go this place was pretty awesome. It was not as top notch as some others but it wasn't as costly either.
Majority of the staff was exceptionally nice.
Very nice surroundings, beautiful scenery, great food in the 2 main areas of dining Carnival and Beach front redtsurant. Excellent staff throughout the facilty in as much as we had such a terrible experience in the one steak restaurant ..we would never return to this resort if not for the great service of Fernando the concierage, Greisy from Carnival and Walington from the beach front restaurant and Ronny from the preferred Lounge (The last 3 are photo'd)
They alone made my experience worth staying at this place again
The one thing the resort should consider is putting up a dark net over the court yard to reduce the sunlight. Their court yard is fantastic and they hold the greatest entertainment there. It would be great to sit there through out the day and relax but it just gets to hot with the sun beating down...that canopy would boost there rating by a star.
Again tho my rating is low it is due to pure service in 1 restaurant and the sun in the courtyard..it does not reflect the great service I received from some if there top notch employees...they make your staff worth it
