We (family of four) are still at this resort, and we would not recommend it. Reasons (I limit it to the objective items):

1.) The hotel does not have a beach. There is literally a Super narrow little stretch right next to a bigger road (yes, there is a road between the hotel and the sea). We have never ever seen anyone there, as one could not enjoy it
2.) The Swimming pool is right next to a large road. So forget about peacefulness. The trucks just keep coming
3.) All nearby "highlights" like Hong Island are COMPLETELY overrun. Going there feels like on the tube in London at 08:00 am in commuters' morning traffic

The staff works very hard and tries to make up for it. But this is a tough job.....

Bonjour 'priapeiaplateforme',

Thank you for having chosen Sofitel for your stay in Krabi and for sharing your comments on Trip Advisor.

We are sorry to read that your stay in Krabi was not up to your expectations. If indeed, as you mention, the hotel has no private beach and guests have to cross a road to access it, the said road is not a busy highway with constant traffic as you make it sound. We have a guard posted to stop incoming traffic and allow guests to cross safely. The beach in front of the hotel is at least 3 times wider than the road itself.

During high season islands do indeed see a lot of visitors. We would recommend to go on an afternoon tour instead of a morning one so as to enjoy those islands at a time when there are less visitors.

We are pleased to read that you appreciated the service extended by our teams.

Yours Sincerely,

Poorit Nookua

We love Sofitels and this was also one of the Best. We are family of 4 and spent 4 nights in Krabi hotel during Christmas. The hotel is very convenient with kids. We stayed in Ocean Suite and highly recommend for families with Young kids. It has direct pool access and seperate living room if you want to enjoy privacy when kids are sleeping. Breakfast is good and Italian and India restaurants are great. You enjoy lounge access if you stay in Suite and that is the Best. Beach is small but lovely, sea was calm. You can do the tours to islands. Kids club is very good also.

The Sofitel is a very elegant hotel with a classic quality design. The whole hotel and rooms are immaculately clean with good facilities and fab L’Occitane toiletries.
The swimming pool is huge with an adult only area and there are plenty of sun loungers.
The breakfast is fabulous with a massive choice to suit all tastes and the staff are very friendly.
The hotel is about 20 minutes drive from the main town and there is a free hotel shuttle bus, this runs 4 times a day. An improvement would be for the hotel to increase this service.
There are also a good selection of restaurants a short walk from the hotel.
We had a brilliant time and would recommend this hotel - we will definitely be back.

We are a family of 4. Our room consisted of 1 queen size bed and 2 single, transportable beds. Not fold away, they are more robust than that but they do have wheels. The room was large, well kept and very clean. Our room was quite far away from the main reception, a good 8-10 min walk, the hotel is really large.

The pools were excellent, very clean and well maintained. I believe this is one of the biggest swimming pools in Krabi and I'd quite believe that, it was massive! There is an adults only section, family section and a games section. A slight negative is the road that runs just in front of the pool. The pool is raised up so the only traffic you actually see are the trucks but it does not take long for you to NOT notice that it's there. It's not that busy.

The sunbeds are really nice, wooden and with a good mattress. They are really comfortable and there are plenty of them. It was good to see that people did not save them.

The pool bar, the service was questionable and it's expensive, I waited 15 mins to get served so we didn't go again, but it is nice, if you are prepared to wait.

The food in the hotel was exceptional. We even saw the head chef coming out every service and checking all the food which was on display, impressive! Breakfast, well I have to admit, it is the best buffet breakfast I have ever seen, absolutely everything was there and at a really high standard.

The gym was well equipped and it was a nice touch to have fresh towels and bananas at all times.

The kids club was good. My son even attended one of the movie nights which was held in the grand theatre, great kids club especially for really young children.

The drinks and food are a little pricey here which just made us venture out to the beach bars more. Not only that, they chuck on a service charge and tax on top of the price. Be careful. We would take a tuk tuk for 100 Baht to the beach bars and stay there. Much more affordable.

Or, you can take the free shuttle bus to Ao Nang for something to eat. It is good that the hotel does this as is fairly remote. It takes about 15 mins to drive to Ao Nang.

We also looked at using the laundry service in the hotel and it was basically charging around £30 for a small / medium size bag. I went next door to the local lady and paid £20 for a large suitcase full to be washed and ironed. She was ace!

It is a beautiful hotel, service is good, it's clean and safe. You can have a good family holiday here.

This was our second visit to Krabi (we stayed at the Dusit Thani last year) and the Sofitel definitely has its plus and minus sides compared to the Dusit.

The staff are very friendly and attentive and I can’t fault their professionalism. The presentation of the hotel is lovely, with a huge regal lobby, lovely gardens and lovely, good sized rooms with comfy beds, pillows and great air-con with free bottled drinking water topped up twice everyday!

The pool is huge and great to swim lengths in. Also, there’s a great adults only area by the pool which is away from the madness of the kid’s activities, which sounded like fun if you’re into that sort of thing! Good service of food and drinks around the pool too.

They provide free drinking water from dispensers around the pool which is a very nice touch and there is no shortage of sun beds. The hotel provide free towels.

The food is a bit expensive for lunch at the poolside bar where the choice of Thai food is surprisingly limited, but fresh and good quality. The Indian/Thai restaurant has amazing Indian dishes; the chef’s special Lamb Rogan Josh being one of the best curries I’ve ever had! But this was a bit over priced: 2 x mains, 1 x shared naan bread, 1 x shared rice and 2 large beers costing about 1900 baht (£40) by the time the service charge and tax are added onto the bill.

All food in the hotel has a 10% service charge and 7% tax added to the bill, which I found a bit of a piss take considering the food is already over-priced and the hotel has a bit of a monopoly over the guests due to its fairly remote location. The poolside bar/restaurant must be making an absolute fortune at lunch time. There are a few little independent Thai restaurants open for lunch just next to the hotel and The Royal Clay Oven, which is a 5 minute taxi ride away serves the same excellent quality Indian food and drinks for dinner, but at half the price of the hotel, so you can venture out and get more for your money. Get a Tuk tuk there for 100 baht!

There are a row of about 15 lovely independent Thai restaurants/bars with fairy lights etc right on the beach about a 10 minute walk away (turn left when you come out of the hotel) which are definitely worth visiting. Then about 10 more lovely Thai and Indian restaurants further along near the Dusit Thani about 5 minutes by taxi. Get a taxi/ tuk tuk on the road out the front of the hotel as it will be much cheaper than ordering one to the hotel.

A few good, well priced independent massage places are just a minute’s walk outside the hotel as you turn left and more about another 5 minutes walk further up the road.

The mediocre hotel beach is across a small road, but the hotel have employed a lollipop crossing man who stops the traffic on a zebra crossing to allow guests to cross safely, but the road isn’t over busy. Some reviewers on here call it a motorway, but it’s nowhere near as busy as that and is safe to walk down to get to the little town about 10 minutes walk away, which has small supermarkets, bars, massage places and more restaurants as well as a clinic and tour shops. The beach gets better the further you walk towards the Dusit Thani.

The hotel’s free shuttle to Ao Nang is a lovely touch (the Dusit Thani charge 350 baht per head for their shuttle!) and worth a visit, but make sure you book 24hrs in advance to guarantee a seat. The hotel gym is ok: lots of cardio machines and adequate weight machines.

Breakfast was great (bigger and better than the Dusit Thani) with plenty of seats with loads to choose from and nice food.

Overall, this isn’t quite a top-end, 5 star hotel in all aspects, but is very close and you do get what you pay for in terms of accommodation and decor. As a couple, we found it tranquil and relaxing, with plenty of activities to get involved in for adults and kids if you want them. It’s a shame that it’s so obvious that the hotel is trying to rinse the guests for extras at the restaurants etc as these should really be subsidised by the hotel. You do have the choice to eat and drink elsewhere if you want to venture 5 to 10 minutes away though. I’d definitely come back here!

Bonjour 'Terry C',

Thank you for sharing your review on TripAdvisor and for choosing your recent stay at Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra.

We note your comment in relation to the price of food, we are sure that you would appreciate that as a luxury hotel we have many high operational costs to enable us to provide quality food and dining experiences with trained staff and first class kitchens. We cannot compete with local businesses and our guests expectations are definitely very different.

On a positive note, we are pleased that you communicated the other positive aspects of your recent stay. Your kind and encouraging feedback is always appreciated by our hard working team members.

Once again, thank you for sharing your experience with us. We look forward to welcoming you back soon at Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra.

Yours Sincerely,
