Exceptional B&B, a real gem!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Nov 2024
A truly wonderful Boutique B & B, overlooking Barmouth Bay with spectacular panoramic views. Clean, modern, friendly with spacious well decorated rooms. We had a sea view deluxe room with a game changer of a bathroom, top notch suite with a free standing bath, walk in shower and state of the art Japenese electric toilet. Staff and hotel owner all hands on and made to feel like nothing was too much. Highly recommend!

We recently stayed for two nights at this B&B, paying nearly £300 and lured by promises of "a touch of luxury". Unfortunately, our experience was far from this and there were many niggles during our stay.

Firstly, the temperature in our room upon arrival was uncomfortably cold. When I asked reception  about  when the heating came on, I received vague responses. I later realised that this was because the central heating did not actually come on at all— even at the end of October!  All that was available was a small , portable electric heater in our room. Returning to a cold room each evening and waiting for the heater to warm things up for a few minutes, only for it to cool down almost immediately when switched off,  was not our idea of comfort or indeed "luxury". One night after coming back from dinner, we were caught in a heavy downpour  and got soaked through. There was absolutely nowhere to dry our clothes.  Waking up cold in the middle of the night just isn't acceptable.

Our bathroom was absolutely freezing too. No heating in there at all either. There was only a single glazed window and I absolutely dreaded showering because it was so cold!

Additionally, the room had a very strong air freshener scent upon arrival. Sadly, we soon discovered this was masking a lingering smell ( cat pee/ mould). This seemed to be emanating from the bathroom and seeping into the entire room.

Furthermore, our "sea view" was available only through one very small window—not at all what we expected when we upgraded to a sea view room.

Whilst the room was decently sized and the breakfast was lovely, unfortunately  the lack of heating  and smelly bathroom make us reluctant to return.

Room tip: If you like to be warm, try the George iii.

We arrived to a pleasant welcome from the girl at reception and were given the keys to room 9 which is on the second floor, on opening the door we were greeted by the most magnificent view of the estuary and in the distance Fairbourne.

The room itself was of standard size and could be made into a twin or double (This you can indicate when booking). The bathroom was very nice and the shower was always warm with no waiting at all for it to warm up.

The absence of a lift may make the two flights of stairs out of reach for some people but if you can manage that your view will be spectacular from the room, although I was led to believe that rooms on the lower floor are just as good with regard to the view.

There are around 4-5 choices for breakfast (perhaps more on request) and once again these are very nice as my wife and I between us chose to try most of them.

We encountered a very pleasant member of staff at breakfast (Clare) who gave us many tips on what to do and where to eat during the evening advising us to book especially if we were to stay again more in season.

Although my wife and I found no real downside to this hotel a true review would not be that if I did not mention the very steep hill (Panorama Road) that leads to the establishment and could make it very difficult for some that have a walk into the town, a taxi back might be advisable if you are unsteady on your feet.

All in all a most pleasant five days spent here and would certainly return again.

Thanks to all the staff that we met here you were most pleasant and professional.

Just got back from an amazing stay at the Bae Abermaw- stayed in room 6 at the front.
    I mean the view!

Great decor, all the facilities you would expect, hairdryer, amenities, looked like brand new bathroom.

Relaxing stay in tasteful, comfortable surroundings with lovely hosts. Great breakfast. So chilled out.
    Location is wonderful.
The view from the breakfast room and the tables on the front lawn was amazing and we could have stayed there for ages.
    Nice shower. Very comfortable beds.

Room tip: Parking outside the hotel in their car park is good.

My youngest son (plus dog) and I had lovely 1 night stay at Bae this week. Whilst the location is high up, slightly out of the main town, this provided lovely views and a very peaceful place to relax away from the bustle of the main town.
The owners and staff were very proactive in ensuring we had everything we needed and gave us an excellent recommendation for fish and chips (The Mermaid)
Breakfast is a fantastic choice and very attentive service. We liked the 'honesty' bar and enjoyed a game of cards with our drinks. Overall a highly recommended stay. Thank you Gary and team.

Room tip: Be prepared for a steep walk there and back but the views are worth it
