Stayed here for one night on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Receptionist was friendly and welcoming. As other people have said there are no lifts so try to travel light for this hotel. Our room was up some very noisy stairs, no sneaking in late on these stairs! Our room was huge and although one side had windows overlooking other buildings, a side window offered a great view across Loch Linnhe. Two leather chairs in the room had seen better days and looked as though they might have previously served their time in a sitting room. They were however comfortable. The bathroom was spacious but the toilet bowl looked as though it needed a serious scrub and bleaching. The food we had at dinner was excellent and we were treated to a spectacular sunset whilst eating. The receptionist had advised us to eat at an earlier time because of a coach party arriving and for this we were very thankful as we were served promptly in advance of the coach party. The choice for dinner was very good and was served by very pleasant staff. Breakfast was also very good with plenty to choose from. The large sitting room near reception has a feel of the past and is comfortable to sit and relax in. We would stay here again.

We stayed here one night on our way to Stirling and the location was beautiful at the bottom of the loch. Scenery was breathtaking and the hotel easy to locate. Location was the best part as the room in this old stately hotel was certainly dated and below par. Check-in was swift and we made our way up a very old staircase to the 3rd floor, carrying our bags as there are no lifts. This was very common while travelling through Scotland, so pack light. The room was large enough, and the furniture sufficient but the room had a stale smell of urine and the two chairs provided had horrible stains on them. The bathroom was clean enough and the water hot for a shower. The bed was not very comfortable and lumpy on the edges, with a stain on my duvet. In what once was most likely a beautiful old hotel, I found old tired furniture, rugs and wallpaper and a stale lingering unpleasant smell. Breakfast had very good choices at the morning buffet. The most annoying besides the smell, was the lack of decent wifi . It was in and out all evening and even the television quit part way through the evening and when my husband called reception he was told "the aerial was out". I find this hard to believe in 2017; good wifi is a must.

amrh2006 im sorry to read that you had such a disappointing stay with us and that the old world charm and décor was not for you, our beds and mattresses are not yet a year old so disappointed to hear that you found the bed to be uncomfortable, but thank you for taking the time to write.

a lovely break made more so by lovely, friendly staff, fantastic food and great view of Loch Linnhe we had a room overlooking Loch Linnhe, we watched the sun rise and set over the loch, well worth a visit just for that.when we booked we were informed that id we wanted to guarantee a loch view room there would be £10 per night charge, this was well worth the extra expense, all together a great break, well worth our tiring 6 hour journey to get there.

Room tip: ask for a loch view room and pay the £10 per night surcharge

Lovely old hotel in absolutely gorgeous setting. Sitting room and library are lovely with plenty of seating. Toilets are spotless and tastefully decorated with good facilities.
We stayed for two nights on a BB&EM basis. Food was really nice and very well presented. Dining area was a little noisy at times due to coach parties (one group did an elongated "happy birthday" song that seemed to go on for ages! One the first evening waiting on staff were really attentive and helpful, however, on the second evening we cannot claim this to be the same. When shown our table for the evening meal we said it was a bit cramped being next to a post and requested a different table; initially we were told that they thought the table on offer was good for the view but it was 8.30pm and dark outside! We insisted on moving which didn't go down well as we were told the other tables were "set up for breakfast". We had a bit of a surly service I'm afraid after that. However, all was forgiven by the morning and we enjoyed a better atmosphere at breakfast. (which ends at 9.30am apparently and not the last entry for breakfast as we were told by waiting on staff on the first morning at breakfast when we requested more coffee at 9.30). Reception staff were first class, efficient and helpful. Views were amazing and made up for the attitude of one of the restaurant staff. There is no lift so getting to the bedrooms requires going up flights of stairs.

Room tip: 14&15-2nd floor small. beds good. 14 bath with shower over v.small. No shelves 4 toiletries. 15 shower only. Not lake views.

Stayed here one night on a tour group, Yes the hotel is not your typical Hilton. But you are in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish highlands. That considered it is a really charismatic place to stay. There are two sections in the hotel...the new section and the old section. We stayed in the new section and it was your average hotel room. They have a nice little study area where you can sit and read a book or type a review! Dinner was good as well as the buffet. Rooms average in size. There is a bar where you can grab a drink. Overall a nice experience.
