My first visit to the crown since I moved from Blandford some 3 years ago. The bar area has been totally revamped and looked good. It was a nice sunny day so we sat outside and ordered some lunch. Not a bad selection on the menu. The young lady that served me was very pleasant and polite. It would be a good idea to number all the tables outside so the waitress is not wandering around looking for the people that have ordered food. So our food arrived the blt sandwich was good but my friend had the crayfish open sandwich which was disappointing the portion size of the chips and sweet potato fries is small and for me overpriced. The old tables and chairs could do with some attention or replacing and it would be nice if you could sweep under the tables as there was rotting food under a couple of them.

We booked the Crown not knowing anything about it. Wow - were we in for a treat. A gorgeous hotel steeped in history. We had a beautiful room (the one pictured above) with a huge bathroom and separate toilet. The bed was SO comfortable. The room started off a little noisy as people were sat outside below our window - but that stopped at 10.30 which is fine.
We ate in the restaurant - lovely staff and great food. Dinner was lovely and the breakfast was excellent.
Will definitely be back. Superb hotel

Room Tip: Room 6 was beautiful

We stayed here for a wedding which was happening locally. The rooms are lovely and as pictured but the food in the evenings is at best mediocre. The worst part though is that the walls are paper-thin; even using earplugs it feels like your neighbours are in the room with you. Simply forget getting a good night's rest, it's certainly not going to happen here. Staff are passable, management sat on their backsides stuffing there faces with chocolates and virtually no regard for guests.

We stayed here on a Friday night, the most urban location of our week-long stay. We were warmly welcomed and the room we got was simply beautiful. I was delighted to see that it was on the second floor - the ground floor bar was very noisy and I would imagine first floor rooms may not be the best.
The bedroom was beautifully decorated, but personally I was slightly put off by the disabled-access toilet. But that was only a minor issue. The room was surprisingly quite that night and we had a wonderful sleep (we also ate dinner in the bar, separate review).
Breakfast was served in a stunning room and the choice was delightfully varied - the shakshuka was superb. The morning staff were a tiny bit unhelpful, or perhaps disinterested would be a better word.....
Overall, I would definitely return here....

Room Tip: Definitely the upper floors, bar was quite noisy

We stayed two nights in the crown after a tour of Devon and Somerset. I can honestly say that every member of staff were brilliant. This went from chambermaids who got an extra chair when we said we were going to watch TV in our room, to the bar, restaurant and front office staff. The food was great and the manager got us into a fully booked restaurant without a reservation. Old fashioned service at its bests, a definite return.

Room Tip: ours was at the front on the road but still quiet at night
