Description: When walking on the Wealden Way we recommend taking the time to discover The Gun, an atmospheric pub-restaurant on the outskirts of Heathfield, East Sussex. This fifteenth century pub is full of period charm and countryside comfort, the interior carefully decorated to create light and space, bringing a touch of the modern to ancient bare bricks, wood panelling and stripped back flooring with simple, elegant but robust furnishings. An extensive landscaped garden is perfect for families, providing play equipment for children while maintaining the peace and quiet of a true country retreat. At The Guns bar, youll find all manner of well kept real ales as well as a wide selection of quality wines, while the food menu is celebrated locally for its great pies, seasonal game dishes and continental specialties, all created using locally sourced, fresh produce. Whether a snowy winters day or a hot summer evening, The Gun has a perfect atmosphere to suit, indoors or out, for dinner or just a few drinks and a bite to eat.

The location is the perfect English Country paradise.
Sat out in the sun in their garden was simply glorious.
The food was beautifully presented and delicious.
The scallops are delicious :)
On the little expensive side but worth it for a special moment.

Far exceeded expectations as we took over a large area for afternoon tea but all the staff were lovely and very helpful, the food was absolutely wonderful and displayed beautifully, nothing was too much trouble. We went back the next day for Sunday lunch which was equally as nice
Couldn't fault anything at all

We had visited here in the week and were impressed with the service, the food and the friendly welcoming staff. I recommended for Sunday lunch and was disappointed with the slow service and the accomodating staff feel was not there and even asking for things like sauces seemed too much trouble (given a jar!).

We would though visit again as it may have been an off day although they are always busy. Good Atmosphere and Food quality so worth a visit.

We haven eaten here several times before and had decent food so, when looking to book somewhere to meet friends for Sunday lunch, it seemed like a good choice. I have to say that staff were polite and efficient. Our starters/'while you wait' dishes came quickly and were tasty and good value. We waited too long for our mains. The roasts looked good and our friends enjoyed them. My husband and I didn't choose wisely; his burger was quite dry and my smokie was tiny. It was served in a such a shallow dish. The smokie was about 1-2cms deep. I've eaten Sussex smokies at many pubs in the area and this was the smallest I've ever seen and, at £13, very overpriced. The child-size servings of pasta were also small. Our 5 year olds ate them in minutes. The ice creams were nice. So, in short, good service, but hit and miss re the food and a tad expensive.

Visited The Gun at Gun Hill last night, we were warmly welcomed and seated at a nice table for two. It was warm and comfortable. We were offered drinks, the waitress was helpful.
When ordering my husband ordered a burger and due to some strange dietary requirements I had a mix match from the olives and air cured ham and a cheese board which they were very accommodating with.
The food was prompt the chips were very hot and fresh. Everything was as we ordered. Really nice. Staff were helpful through out.
Thank you for a lovely evening
