“Lovely Cottage in special village”
Reviewed 4 March 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Just loved the cottage, which was traditional yet renovated with flair and using a colour which is my favourite - duck egg blue. Visit Blakeney often so this one is going on my list of special cottages. Looked like it was newly decorated and had a nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend to those wishing to choose a cottage which is renovated with the traditional aspects retained

Reviewed 20 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We've been coming to Blakeney for years and this is one of the most delightful we have found We loved it last time but has been redecorated again and is really so lovely Loads of character, clean and good attention to detail. Will come again soon.

“Unconcerned about cleanliness, safety - and responding...”

Our stay was very enjoyable in some ways and very disappointing in others. All dealings with the letting company prior to arriving were pleasant and professional but it was once we arrived at the cottage (called Buttercup Cottage, not Clover Cottage, which might have been done to conceal bad reviews) that we discovered the reality of what had been purchased.

A botched repair job done to the bathtub previously resulted in the cottage next door being flooded through their kitchen ceiling.

We found every item in the kitchen, particularly plates, dishes, cups, glasses and cutlery to be covered in dust that suggested work had been done in the kitchen such as sanding or sandpapering. Before using any of the above, we had to run a few dishwasher cycles to remove it.

Electrical sockets are overloaded with extension leads and plugs, particularly downstairs raising issues and concerns about electrical fires that cottages are prone to.

The above are only a few issues we made the letting company aware of by email and we never received any acknowledgement of the email or response. They are unconcerned about what people think of the property and issues surrounding it.

We advise looking and booking elsewhere and with a company that takes cleanliness and safety seriously!

“Disappointing in many respects”

We have just stayed in this cottage but on our booking form it says it is called Buttercup Cottage. We always look for reviews first before we book and had we known it was also called Clover Cottage and seen these reviews we would not have booked. Plus points - the open fire and the bedding and towels - on our booking form it stated we had to bring our own bedding and towels or we could hire bedding at £12 per person. We did take our own bedding so it was nice to find the beds made up. WiFi worked well. However there were several issues. Being November we had asked for the storage heaters to have been switched on the night before. Of the 2 downstairs one had been switched on. In the bedrooms the one in the double bedroom had been switched on but no heat was coming out - it was broken. Fortunately there was an electric heater. In the second bedroom the storage heater had not been switched on. In the bathroom the light bulb had gone and the light did not have a cover on. Outside the main bedroom is a step onto the landing. However this step directly faces the stairs with hardly any space between that step and the top of the stairs. Were you to trip on the step out of the bedroom that could result in falling down the stairs - this is dangerous and needs a stair gate at the top of the stairs to prevent this happening. The shower room downstairs. This is appalling and neither myself nor my husband looked forward to having a shower. We have stayed in many basic ~(not modern and fancy) static caravans over the years and none are as bad as this. The shower cubicle is tiny - you have to put the shampoo on the bottom of the shower tray. When washing my hair I had to switch off the shower so there was room to wash my hair without water pouring over it at the same time. The cubicle is so small that the shower curtain clings every time you move. There is no light in that area. We had to leave the door into the kitchen open to see properly . We gave up eventually using the shower cubicle. As another person pointed out there is a great lack of electrical sockets. I appreciate it is an old cottage but we have always lived in 16th and 17th century cottages ourselves and this cottage needs an upgrade. It is advertised as having a garage to park in but forget it unless you have a tiny car. No specific directions are given - except to say it is down a loke off the high street. We arrived in the dark and it would have been helpful to say how far down the high street the turning into the loke was as we had to park and then walk up the high street with a torch to find which loke it was down. Such a shame as we love Blakeney.

“Style over substance”

We were very disappointed from start to finish. Having paid the invoiced amount weeks prior we received an email a week before our holiday reporting that the owner had made a typo and we owed another £100, this is not how you conduct business.

Parking
The garage advertised would take a great feat of parking to get into but even more to reverse out of as would involve reversing down an overgrown alley filled with pots and bins, luckily there is a £3 a day car park opposite.

Shower/toilet
On arriving, the downstairs toilet cistern had obviously been leaking for a while and had flooded.
As a party made up of tall adults there were two options for showering, the first is in the upstairs bathroom which has a small bath and shower head attachment, had no way of attaching to wall and therefore needed to be hand held up with no shower curtain, however did not have sufficient water pressure and therefore was freezing cold, the second was a small shower room next to the front door and kitchen (with leaking toilet), there was a small mirror light which is not strong enough to light the shower making it very dark and claustrophobic.

It has everything that you should need and a lot of effort had been made to make everything stylish with colour coordinated scatter cushions and bed throws etc however nothing in the cottage seemed to have been recently maintained, checked between visitors or updated- lots of the crockery/cutlery had dried on food, plates were cracked, kettle was full of limescale with chunks dropping into teacups and toaster full of crumbs which then smoked and burned when used, it had a lovely real fire but with no wood provided in order to use it, a lot of the electric sockets were very loose. It generally needed a good deep clean.

Cellar
As advertised it does have a games room, having ventured into the cellar it was so damp we never went back down to investigate further.

The rooms are well sized however I would not recommend for anyone with small children or who are unsteady on their feet and there are multiple changes of levels with a large step sticking out from the bedroom which is on the main landing to the bathroom and straight in front of the main staircase.

Its location however was perfect with easy access to both Blakeney pubs and harbour but also the coast road for traveling further afield. It does have working tv and wifi.
All in all not worth the money we paid for it and a little unexpected given some of the reviews on here.
