We stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix for 1 night to attend an event at Talking Stick Resort Arena. It was AMAZING to be so close within walking distance to the arena, I could’ve thrown a pebble from the front of the hotel lobby and hit it. Seriously, location location location!
We arrived at around 1:30pm and I had requested an early check in. Our room was ready, which made me so happy after a long morning of flying, and check in with Caitlyn was smooth and efficient, well done! We checked out with Grace at the FD and she was just as friendly and conversational. Great service.
We booked a King Premier Room, which gave us a nice view of downtown. The room had soft hints of Southwestern style which was nice. And of course it was a spacious, perfectly sized room for the 2 of us!
We opted for Valet parking at $33/day. To self park in the parking garage next door to the hotel, it was $25/day, so we didn’t see the point in saving the $7. Brad at Valet was wonderful! On our arrival he was the only valet at the front with 4 cars needing attention. He was efficient and worked quickly, and all with a smile on his face! It definitely left a great first impression upon arriving at the hotel.
Now there are a few things that made this a 4 star review instead of 5...
For one, the beds were incredibly hard and the pillows felt extremely old and worn in. They had no fluff to them at all. My husband and I both slept horribly, which considering the luxury level of this hotel, we were kind of disappointed.
We also had an experience with room service that was less than favorable. One of the nice things about room service is they serve food all night (with a late night snack menu in the wee hours), so when my husband and I returned from our event at about 1230am, we ordered a deep dish pizza, some French fries, and a quesadilla. We didn’t wait long for our food, which was great. But as I was making conversation with the man who dropped our food off, I mentioned we had just come from an event at Talking Stick and he responded with “I don’t understand how someone can spend $200 per ticket and then $200 on a hotel room, is the economy that good?” Completely unprompted, But I thought maybe he was joking so I laughed it off and replied that we budget and plan for these events like any working class family. He did not respond and left the room without another word. Now I am a Forbes 5 star certified hospitality agent and I have worked in high end hospitality for a long time, and the whole interaction with him put a very bad taste in my mouth. It was just uncalled for after an otherwise very fun night. Service is truly everything.
Other than these few blemishes, it was a great stay! I really like the Kimpton brand and this is definitely the best option in Downtown Phoenix, especially if you are attending anything at Talking Stick or Chase Field.
