Hotel is very hip and cool - yet very casual. Located perfectly downtown- close to everything. We were fortunate enough to be there over July 4th and the rooftop is probably the best place to see the fireworks over Chase Field, which is directly across the street. They have one of the nicest coffee bars I’ve ever seen in a hotel, including chilled coffee and flavored syrups so you can really skip your $5 iced coffee every morning- and just make it here. Additionally, there’s a social hour daily from 5-6pm, where They serve gourmet flatbread pizza and wine. It was very nice and we took advantage of this many evenings.

The rooms are large and comfy. The bathrooms are large. LOVED the hair dryer so much I’m going to purchase one for home. And what a simple thing - putting full size pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower, but not fiddling with tiny bottles made such a huge difference in the feeling of luxury. Rooms are sound proof and quiet, without annoying loud fans. There were a few tiny oversights, but things that just happen in hotels- and nothing extreme enough that would prevent me from returning.

Staff was very helpful and nice. We received restaurant recommendations there - so don’t hesitate to ask them. The Strand was one of our favorites. The lobster mac and cheese was actually penne, but it was delicious. All meals there were priced reasonably and we didn’t have a bad meal the entire time we were there. $5 margarita was available daily. And all of their beers are from Arizona. They have a dark nutmeg beer that is similar to Newcastle and delicious. We also ate at The Breakfast Club every morning. Breakfasts were delicious. Both restaurants are just steps from the hotel- and there are so many restaurants to choose from- all in walking distance. Additionally- the CVS is close and has EVERYTHING!! After paying $10.50 for a Malibu and pineapple at the pool, I purchased an entire bottle of Malibu and pineapple juice for $12 at the CVS. Cases of water (much needed for the volleyball tournament)were $1.88.

I was surprised that Phoenix does not really have a pretty skyline. Views are really choppy and obstructed. It was hard to find places to take good pics. If you have a room on the South side of the hotel, you can see mountains, but they’re far away. Views from other angles of the hotel are significantly worse- looking into other buildings - so I’d definitely recommend requesting a room facing the mountains.

Some of my favorite moments were spent at 6 am , relaxing by the pool. Now for the ONLY thing I didn’t like about the hotel - and the ONLY reason I didn’t give 5 stars. The pool during the day. I’ve seen the hotel’s earlier responses that this is just “ Phoenix by the pool in the summer”, but this was so much more than this. The hotel allows the public to use the pool. They don’t even need a key to get in. The pool looks like MTV Beach party. It’s primarily singles in their mid-20’s. Undoubtedly, the hotel makes a lot of money on drinks. But it was obnoxious. Yes, it was next to impossible to get a chair- or to find a place to “be”- but it was so much more than crowded. It was an extremely uncomfortable environment- and one in which we definitely felt like outsiders. Definitely not an environment for a young family- and it seemed even inappropriate being there with teenagers. People were BLIND drunk. One young woman was passed out on the couch in the hall leading to the pool. It was definitely a HUGE disappointment- and with temps often hitting 100 degrees by 9 am- certainly we had intended to use the pool. Quickly, we discovered the pool was not even on the table for us. I would strongly encourage management to re-think their policy on letting the public use the pool. As much as I loved the amenities in this hotel, if I was in Phoenix again and found another hotel with a pool not open to the public, I would probably give them a shot.

kate612,

Thank you for the wonderful review and the many highlights of your recent visit. We take a lot of pride at the Palomar Phoenix to ensure our atmosphere remains very hip and cool. I loved reading that you were able to enjoy all of the wonderful amenities on property. Our Morning Kickstart and Social Hour are staples to the Kimpton experience and a must for any guest staying with us. Glad to hear the rooms were quiet and comfortable. The Atelier Blom bathroom amenities are top notch!

I am sorry to hear about the pool experience. The Palomar Phoenix is definitely a hot spot in the summer time, and this is definitely a popular spot. We appreciate the comments as we are always seeking ways to make the experience better. We hope to welcome you back in the future for the big volleyball tournament!

No doubt the Arizona summers are not for the faint of heart - however once the sun goes down nothing beats a warm summer night outside on a patio for either dinner or drinks or both! - thats where the Palomar comes into play - perfect walking location to all the Phoenix downtown " hot" spots, concert and diamond back games just park your car and leave the rest to the oh so accommodating staff - tips on dining - check - set you up with fresh towels for the roof top pool - check - take one of the complimentary bikes out for a spin - check - all good - all the time , the rooms are specious and hip without trying too hard - nice touches everywhere - even a good on site restaurant with a decent selection of wine and craft beer - you may not want to leave ! however its the people that really make the difference here from the valet to the front desk and pool side bartenders - theymake it a pleasurable stay ... even if its way north of 100 degrees - this place is pretty cool

garrett d,

Thank you for this stellar review. There is no denying the Phoenix summers can be hot but there are so many fantastic ways to cool down and it looks like you covered most of them. We appreciate you sharing the love with TA nation and we hope to see you again!

Wonderful hotel with friendly and professional staff. Can't beat the location as you are in walking distance to both the baseball and the basketball venues. I hesitated giving this review 5 stars as even though our room was nice and spacious, it could have been a little cleaner (the ottoman was dirty with crumbs) and the pillows were very uncomfortable. Otherwise, everything else was great. They offer coffee in the mornings, and have Happy Hour in the evenings; self parking is available right below the hotel for 25.00 a day; they have bikes you can ride around the city; you can use an amazing gym next door; excellent amenities in the room; and the staff are all very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is gorgeous, the pool fantastic, the restaurant wonderful and the staff superb. Only notes that keep this from being a five star review: no free WiFi for guests? At the rate you’re charging? Come on. Also, the mattress was a little uncomfortable; lumpy. Not horrid, just not five star comfy. Last but not least-the gym next door. Ugh. I wish you had your own facilities. That place was 85 degrees (not hyperbole, I checked the thermostat), smelly, dated equipment. Bro-gym.

But your staff...really wonderful. As always in every city.

We stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix for 1 night to attend an event at Talking Stick Resort Arena. It was AMAZING to be so close within walking distance to the arena, I could’ve thrown a pebble from the front of the hotel lobby and hit it. Seriously, location location location!
We arrived at around 1:30pm and I had requested an early check in. Our room was ready, which made me so happy after a long morning of flying, and check in with Caitlyn was smooth and efficient, well done! We checked out with Grace at the FD and she was just as friendly and conversational. Great service.
We booked a King Premier Room, which gave us a nice view of downtown. The room had soft hints of Southwestern style which was nice. And of course it was a spacious, perfectly sized room for the 2 of us!
We opted for Valet parking at $33/day. To self park in the parking garage next door to the hotel, it was $25/day, so we didn’t see the point in saving the $7. Brad at Valet was wonderful! On our arrival he was the only valet at the front with 4 cars needing attention. He was efficient and worked quickly, and all with a smile on his face! It definitely left a great first impression upon arriving at the hotel.
Now there are a few things that made this a 4 star review instead of 5...
For one, the beds were incredibly hard and the pillows felt extremely old and worn in. They had no fluff to them at all. My husband and I both slept horribly, which considering the luxury level of this hotel, we were kind of disappointed.
We also had an experience with room service that was less than favorable. One of the nice things about room service is they serve food all night (with a late night snack menu in the wee hours), so when my husband and I returned from our event at about 1230am, we ordered a deep dish pizza, some French fries, and a quesadilla. We didn’t wait long for our food, which was great. But as I was making conversation with the man who dropped our food off, I mentioned we had just come from an event at Talking Stick and he responded with “I don’t understand how someone can spend $200 per ticket and then $200 on a hotel room, is the economy that good?” Completely unprompted, But I thought maybe he was joking so I laughed it off and replied that we budget and plan for these events like any working class family. He did not respond and left the room without another word. Now I am a Forbes 5 star certified hospitality agent and I have worked in high end hospitality for a long time, and the whole interaction with him put a very bad taste in my mouth. It was just uncalled for after an otherwise very fun night. Service is truly everything.
Other than these few blemishes, it was a great stay! I really like the Kimpton brand and this is definitely the best option in Downtown Phoenix, especially if you are attending anything at Talking Stick or Chase Field.

alliewankenobi,

That is praise we do not take lightly, thank you very much! Caitlyn, Grace and Brad are true rock stars who bring this hotel to life each and every day. We will be sure to recognize them for a job well done.

While this tool is great to celebrate success, it is also invaluable to us as we week to improve. I can promise you we will dive deeper into the room service issue to ensure such an interaction does not come up again. Safe travels and we hope to see you again!
