Large family booking

Review of Hotel Millenia
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Oct 2018via mobile
We were absolutely disappointed with the service provided by this hotel. We are Samoan locals who live on the other side of the island and often need accommodation in Apia. We had a prominent business friend phone for us as we were extremely busy with personal business and needed accommodation for that evening. Our friend, who is also in hospitality, phoned to get a quote for 2 rooms and provided a breakdown of adults and children for each proposed room. We were quoted $245 per room.

We arrived to check in and were then told it would cost us another $50 per child, one of whom is only 4 yrs old.

We had limited time and simply needed somewhere to sleep and my husband was not well. He needed to rest before we needed to go to a special ceremony 2 hrs later.

We explained our situation and they showed no empathy. A manager was referred to but they didn’t bother to come and speak with us. And of course the person who took the phone booking denied it

So in the end we went to Insel Fehrman who were cheaper, provided us with great adjoining rooms, amazingly comfortable beds and a great breakfast.

As foreign locals, we will always now go to Insel Fehrman and will recommend this hotel to all of our family and friends. We certainly will NOT be recommending Millenia Hotel!

Nice pool and restaurant that's as far as it goes. Rooms dark and very noisy a public bar is right next door and room service is pathetic. Don't hire a car from here they don't provide you with a local licence that you must have and the insurance is a joke. Have an accident and pay premium later. Dodgy to say the least.

Pros: Great pool, handy location to town centre, markets and harbour promenade, clean room, reasonably priced cocktails.
Cons: The room, although spacious, was like an air conditioned box. We were upstairs in the deluxe block - a ceiling fan and a screen door would give occupants a choice between air con and fresh fan-cooled air. Menu choices were not the best - too much fried, fattening, bland food. Luckily the Amanaki restaurant next door was very good. The lady in charge at reception was very rude to her staff in front of guests.
I would not stay here again.

Room tip: Definitely choose the deluxe rooms in the newer section of the hotel.

We stayed there in August, we handed over our passports and New Zealand cash to be placed in the safe, next day we asked for a passport for our tour, when we came back we put passport and another $50.00 cash into the safe.
Owner was there and put it in the safe that no staff had access to.
Night before leaving we asked for our envelope back, receptionist counted our money to us, and we were short. When we talked to the reception about this, we said we would email them as we couldn't remember how much we originally started out with.
I sent email on the 15th August and have not heard anything from the establishment.
Turns out we were $80.00 short. Annoyed they have not replied to us.
Don't trust the staff to put your items in a safe, only owners.
We hope to hear from them soon, but it's been 6 weeks

I was very hungry and thirsty on a Sunday when everything in town was closed until 4:30.
even the hotel I was staying in. I was becoming dehydrated. I ordered a large bottle of water and drank half of it before the waiter came back for my order. I had a very delicious kebab. The meat was well seasoned and tender. I wish I could eat there again but I'm a bit too far away for that. The service was a bit slow, but it didn't matter to me because I had my water and a view of a very quiet park and the harbor.

If you like your space and are happy to pay for it the rooms are quite spacious in the wing overlooking the pool. The pool is great.

Staff are very friendly, although it is abit annoying that they aren't able to reconcile online bookings with the walk in system they have, regadless if you get a booking confirmation from the online booking site.

Location is quite convenient being less than 5 minutes walk from the business centre, fish market and bus terminal.

Breakfast is basic and ate elsewhere mostly for dinner.
