My husband and I have stayed at Insel Fehmarn Hotel on several occasions. We love the location its very close to Apia Township, with nice restaurants close by.
We are always greeted with a happy smile and helpful hand by the staff(concierge) when we arrive, and they take our bags up to our room.
At the reception to check in, Patricia (Trish) and her colleagues always welcomes us with a happy friendly smile.
Trish is always very helpful and nothing is a problem if you ask.
There are 3 levels, but there is no lift up to the top floors but the staff are there to help you carry your bags up to your room.
We always book a room up on the 3rd floor. We love the view, quietness our kitchenette and all the rooms have balconies. The rooms are very clean.
The restaurant we love the Island Night BBQ and the Sunday Lunch buffet. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They give good service.
Insel Fehmarn is one of our favourite hotel in Apia

Insel as everyone knows it is a family hotel. If you have traveled and stayed there often enough you get to know the staff there. The 3rd floor is my favorite. Although the 3rd floor is high, its quiet, the rooms are very nicely made. And its close to the restaurant on the 2nd floor. No elevators so everything is walking distance. Cant wait to go back.

The staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful and the room was kept clean.

BUT:

1. On the website it says: "wide flat screen television and WIFI add to guest enjoyment and convenience" but it didn't say that you had to pay for the WIFI. Since we had a laptop each, this turned out to be quite expensive.

2. On the website it says: "Serviced daily with with toiletries for guest comfort" but there was only body lotion, no shampoo or conditioner. I queried this several times but was told that there was nothing else.

3. Similiarly: "While inhouse we invite you enjoy an afternoon by the pool" but the pool was a real problem. There was no warning for families that there was no shallow end, only a ladder for getting in and out, and the deck chairs were wooden with no cushions for comfortable "enjoying time by the pool". Towels were not provided extra for the pool and we were told to simply use our bathroom towels. Since we were only given a towel for the day, we were always ringing up to get a fresh towel after we had used our one towel for either a swim or for a shower.

4. "Rental cars or tours may also be arranged through the hotel's business centre." - there was no sign of this. I asked a couple of times about possible tours but found the reception staff far from helpful - so we organised everything ourselves through the tourist info centre in Apia.

5. The breakfast was very disappointing.
- for most of the days there was only one juice on offer
- you had to pay EXTRA for the coffee if you didn't want instant coffee
- only one choice of fruit on most days
- only choice between weetbix and cornflakes

6. There was a little kitchenette in our room but when we arrived there was no cutlery at all. After that, some basic cooking was possible but we couldn't do our dishes - no detergent or dish brush. The cleaning staff "did the the washing up" but since this was only holding the plate under the running tap, it wasn't very hygienic or thorough.

First time back to Insel in 4 years. There have been a number of upgrades in the room since my last stay. However it would have been nice to have an information compendium in the room. This would have been a useful reference regarding hotel facilities and local amenities.

We enjoyed our stay at Insel Fehmarn. We were there for nine nights and found that it met all our needs. Although it wasn't the most flash of hotels, it was clean and tidy. We liked the location - on the hill gave us a view of Apia and out to sea, and we found it an easy walk into the township. The breakfast was nice, not great, but we always enjoyed something on offer and left ready for the day ahead. It was great to have a kitchenette and fridge. It meant we had freedom about when and where we were going to eat. The kitchen had a full oven, a microwave, kettle and toaster, plates, a frypan and a pot and lid. There were only a couple of knives, but they brought up forks, spoons and teaspoons when we asked. There was not a sharp knife. The fridge also had a freezer on top. This meant we always had cold food and drinks and icecream. The bathroom was clean, and the shower powerful. The aircon was excellent, as well as a ceiling fan. The pool was in the shade in the late afternoon, which was an excellent way to reset after a hot, tiring day exploring beautiful Samoa.
