A nice, relaxing stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Aug 2019via mobile
You can't beat a beachfront fale, especially with the lovely beach that Vacation has. A few let downs were the inconsistencies with meal times, and the lack of bar facilities. We had to store all of our drinks in their fridge out the back as their cocktail bar has shut down. The food was great, and we appreciated that the meals were different every time. Our fale was comfy and clean, however our door had no latch so swung open and shut all the time. We had to wedge it closed with a towel. The staff are really lovely and the toilets always clean and tidy. Hopefully next time the bar is back open and we can enjoy a few cocktails on the restaurant deck!

Lots of beach fale but we took one of the front cabins that was more like a Kiwi motel. Separate bedroom (but with an old aircon that would only run on full. Bit too noisy so we just used the fan). Kitchen with big sink and fridge / freezer. Verandah overlooking the sea.
If you time it right early in the mornings and later in the afternoons the turtles will pass you by. Some good corals to inspect but you have to venture way out towards the reef. Don’t do this on the outgoing tide. The lagoon is not so deep but can have strong cross-currents.
Meals were a set menu and we certainly enjoyed the lemon grass tea.
Arranged a rental car for one day to circuit the island. Took us nine hours. Got stopped by the police for a driver license check.
Local buses seem to stop at the garage over the road from the front entrance, and the shop seems to sell just about everything.
Walking down the road early one evening we came across a couple of guys carrying bags full of ripe pepino. Going rate is $1 tala each. Delicious.
Catholic Church in the next village with Mass at 9am on Sundays. Massive choir – even sung some parts in good old Latin just for us.
Happy to stay again for a few days.

Stayed at Vacations for 2 months. Was very well looked after in clean comfortable accomodation. Great food, friendly staff, excellent deck for relaxing on. They even have cold beer for sale! Highly recommended .. I’ll be back !

Our family stayed in 3 Samoan fales overlooking the water in Manase and loved it. The owners and staff are absolutely lovely and nothing was too much for them. Dinner and breakfast was included in the total price and we couldn't fault it! Huge portion of meat, potato salad and taro for dinner... Can't go wrong there!

If you are looking for something traditionally Samoan with everything you need and the real island experience to just relax and unwind in your own company, then I would really recommend this place.

We enjoyed staying here for two nights but unfortunately the drinks frig had broken down so we had to go elsewhere for cold beers! The fales were reasonable but staff could have been a bit more helpful and friendly.

Room tip: Choose a fale on the beach

Macy took really good care of us. She cooks great food and was very sensitive to our medical dietary restrictions. She also makes a fantastic pina colada for unbelievable price. A virgin jug for only $30 tala. For alcohol, $50. Fresh coconut, fresh pureed pineapple and bacardi rum. A nearby "high class" resort charged us $80 tala for an inferior quality (pineapple juice, a bit watery). She also made sure we got to try a greater range of Samoan food once she knew we were genuinely interested.

Good location as a base for exploring the east and north of the island. In a more touristy area, with pros and cons. More infrastructure and resources. But locals are more wary of foreigners and the risks they pose (for good reason). But still people are incredibly nice compared to...most anywhere else.

Walking distance to town. Snorkel location ok to good, but current gets pretty strong where the reefs get interesting. Close to Dive Savai'i which we highly recommend for some fantastic snorkel and dive tours, including a shipwreck!

Power receptacle in the fales, convenient. Toilets and showers clean and functional. Just don't expect everything to feel polished. It works well enough! Fresh sheets every few days.

Overall we had a very positive experience and felt sad to leave.
