Spent close to a week at the Alvear Palace. We had only booked it for three nights just in case we didn't like it. After upgrading our room (for a fee) to the tenth floor I was very happy and realized it had one of the best locations in the city. The staff was one of the most pleasant ever. We looked forward to our waiter at breakfast and the little shops and restaurants around it were fun too. Great fun.

Room tip: Up grade to 10th. $80 more per night but worth it to me. Floor 2 was more quiet but no view.

We spent a few nights at the Alvear Palace Hotel toward the end of our trip to Argentina. The entire experience was great, even prior to check-in. We were able to leave a large bag at the hotel for a few nights prior to checking in (we were heading to Iguazu, and only took carry-ons). The hotel stowed our bag with no charge, making our experience even easier. Upon checking in, we were given a room upgrade to a deluxe suite, which was great. The room itself was quite spacious, with plenty of closets, hangers, and shelves (a coat closet in the living area and two double-door closets in the bedroom). The bathroom was large, with a deep tub and cavernous shower. Little touches were also appreciated, such as the universal plugs, the 110V and 220V outlets in the bathroom, and the fact that our thermostat was set to fahrenheit (we're American, I believe they change this based upon your passport, which is nice).

We did not try all of the restaurants on site, but breakfast was quite good, as was room service. Additionally, we absolutely loved the lobby bar. It is decorated in a gorgeous style, and the seats are plush and comfortable... you could lounge there for hours. Drinks and snacks are great as well. The concierge was very helpful in suggesting and making dinner reservations. We dined at Crizia one night (very, very good, but in Palermo Soho, so a bit of a haul), and we particularly liked their suggestion of Fervor (right around the corner from the hotel).

Finally, the location is excellent for touring Buenos Aires. Very walkable to the major museums and plazas, and right next to the cemetery. We visited toward the end of our trip, so we had already seen most of the sights in the area, but loved the proximity to Santa Francia, as we wanted to tour the Saturday market one last time before leaving. Overall, a very comfortable, luxurious hotel that you'll want to spend time in, so make sure to take advantage of breakfast and drinks, and possibly a dinner or two at their restaurants. I would certainly stay here on future visits!

The Alvear Palace Hotel felt like taking a step back in time to a more glamorous era. The Hotel was beautiful and the staff was gracious and inviting. Our rooms were beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. The lobby bar was so beautiful, it was hard not to stop for a drink every time we passed by. The breakfast buffet was top notch and in a beautiful setting. The location of The Alvear Palace is tough to beat as it is within walking distance of many museums, attractions and fantastic shopping. It felt much safer than some of the other areas of the city where we were. You cannot go wrong staying here if you are looking for an elegant experience.

A classical, regal old hotel in the center of the fashionable Recoleta district. It's an easy walk from here to the tomb of former first lady, Eva Perón (Evita), in the Recoleta Cemetery. The venerable bar in the hotel lobby is so very inviting and comfortable. Breakfast in the open and airy conservatory is delightful. Best of all is the hotel's fabulous French restaurant - L'Orangerie. There is no better dining venue in all of Argentina. I have stayed at the Alvear several times and have always thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
